JOB SUMMARY:
This Senior Accountant position is responsible for accurate recognition and analysis of gas cost and expenses for SouthStar Energy Services and its operating markets. Additionally, this position will be responsible for assisting with the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• Normally 5-9 years of experience in the accounting field, including budgeting, cost and financial analysis.
• Must be able to demonstrate the following:
• Knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts (GAAP) and an ability to apply these to complete assignments with varying degrees of difficulty.
• Ability to analyze accounting and financial reports and documents that are varied and of difficult complexity.
• Highly motivated, detail oriented, and accountable.
• Demonstrate problem-solving abilities, including the ability to critically think and present new or creative solutions.
• Ability to manage and complete multiple projects and activities with strict time sensitive deadlines.
• Ability to think and work both proactively and independently.
• Ability to interact with all levels of management and operations.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft office applications, especially Excel.
• Must be able to work independently with little supervision yet operate effectively as a team player.
• Energy industry preferred.
• ORACLE experience preferred.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the requirements listed below.
• Prepare, analyze and complete general ledger journal entries, including gas cost and operating expense accruals, for all assigned markets.
• Calculate monthly gas cost estimates and prior month true ups for Georgia and the Large Commercial/Industrial markets, as well as natural gas inventory.
• Analyze, interpret and present gas cost estimates and true ups during monthly gas cost meetings with multiple departments.
• Assist with monthly counterparty settlement packages when needed.
• Complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Contribute to the monthly financial package, including, but not limited to, income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, and variance analysis.
• Ability to interact with all levels of management and operations, providing accounting support to these groups so they have the necessary information to understand business performance.
• Work closely with internal and external auditors, supply schedules and answer questions as needed.
• Intermediate skills in the use of applicable software programs used to create, modify, and analyze accounting and financial documents and reports.
• Maintain documents required for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
• Responsible for special projects and representing accounting needs and requirements.
• In addition to the primary responsibilities noted above, this position will also involve cross-training and secondary responsibilities for other markets, as assigned.
