The Platform Infrastructure and Database Engineering Team  is responsible for overseeing all of the infrastructure and databases at BILL.  We use DataDog (Logging+Metrics+APM), Splunk, and Cloudwatch (by way of Datadog) to alert with Slack and PagerDuty. We are strong believers in Infrastructure as Code. There are many ways to accomplish this, but we use Terraform and AWS ECS to make it happen.  

We are looking for a Senior Staff SRE to join our team. You have recent experience with cloud-native software development, experience in designing and implementing distributed systems, and Cloud computing.

You should be an expert in triaging incidents and working with teams across a company to improve the reliability and performance of systems and services. We want you to think in terms of systems and relationships and to think about learning, teaching, and lifting over doing.

The background to set you up for success:

  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing and evolving a Site Reliability Engineering practice.
  • A strong desire to iteratively define technology and business strategies that enhance our  tools and processes, improving availability, observability, and scalability
  • Experience providing and instituting validated standards and practices around reliability, remediations, troubleshooting, and observability.
  • A desire to provide mentorship to engineering teams about reliability standard methodologies helping proactively identify and resolve issues before they become incidents
  • Deep hands-on experience with designing and implementing infrastructure in AWS to support global-scale services
  • A mindset that is calm and collected, cool under pressure, and not afraid to voice your opinion (even in the heat of an incident)
  • Excellent skills at extracting information and sharing it to reduce silos and break down barriers between teams.
  • Passion for learning new technologies.
  • You appropriately select and deploy tooling.
  • You keep SLA's and MTTR in mind at all times
  • You’ve tackled site-wide outages, learned (and taught!) lessons, and you put safeguards in place to ensure the same incident does not reoccur.
  • Successfully managed production environments at scale
  • Infrastructure as code (AWS CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • Hands on experience with Amazon ECS, ElasticSearch, Redis, Rabbit MQ
  • Networking and routing (VPC, Direct Connect, VPN)
  • Major plus if you are AWS certified as Solutions Architect (Professional)

This role is based in California.

The estimated base salary range for this role is noted below for our office location in San Jose, CA. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in BILL’s bonus and equity plan. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.

$185,100—$230,900 USD
