Senior Strategist - NBCU

Discrete differences to add value and depth to a client's entire communications plan. The UPG Audience & Communications Strategist is responsible for supporting the Audience & Communications Strategy team and Media Planning teams in understanding and developing innovative, creative, and effective client strategies and go-to-market ideas. Strategists understand consumer behavior, trends and channels to help media planning teams focus on the right connections between client's titles and the audiences. Core competencies: data-driven insights, strong research skills, collaboration, and creativity/idea invention - a love for storytelling is a must!

Some of the things we'd like you to do:

Formative & Evaluative Research and Insight for Strategy Development

  • Help support the communications planning and audience research team in the understanding and building of business-specific audiences for the purposes of building breakthrough media plans
  • Formative and evaluative research and insight for strategy development
    • Understand and articulate primary and secondary research for both cultural analysis and business insight
    • See the actionable strategic implications behind insights
  • Bring a target audience to life in a human, nuanced way using multiple data sources
    • Organize findings in a compelling narrative form that sells our thinking
  • Bridge the gap between syndicated tools, research-based audiences, and addressable audiences used for campaign activation alongside agency and client counterparts
  • Understanding of current, key marketing trends and their impact on communications and media planning
  • Oversee the evaluation and use of new information sources
  • Ability to engage and communicate successfully with clients
  • Help drive concept, development and execution of industry-leading thought leadership work
  • Contribute to post-campaign analysis gauging effectiveness of comms channels/approaches

Audience Strategy Development & Idea Generation

  • Data mining and visualization for UPG/NBCU audience development
  • Solution-driven prioritization of theatrical audiences with an understanding of consumer behaviors and nuances.
  • Develop central strategies that are rooted in insights, have a connection idea at their heart and breakthrough ideas as a result
  • Work with the Essence network and media teams to bring these strategies and corresponding ideas to life
  • Assist media teams in understanding and mining consumer journeys across different categories
  • Support strategy and idea workshops to help teams develop innovative and value-based idea-led communications

General

  • Ability to manage multiple project timelines and deliverables across-Essence teams and clients
  • Provide thought leadership in the following areas: consumer behavior, consumer trends, creative media engagements, emerging media, accountability, and measurement
  • Help develop the strategic competencies of the media planning groups
A bit about yourself:

  • Qualified candidates may have a variety of backgrounds including Communications Planning, Strategic Planning, 360 Planning, Channel Planning, Account or Brand Planning with a media foundation
  • 4-5 years experience in an advertising or marketing role, primarily in a planning, consulting or research
  • 3+ years experience with audience measurement tools (i.e. MRI/Fusion, YouGov, NPower, etc) and familiarity with Social Analytics and Sentiment tools (Helixa, Shareablee, BrandWatch)
  • Experience with Entertainment clients or business
  • Experience in contributing to original, effective strategies
  • Strong business, marketing & consumer understanding. Interest in what moves pop culture
  • Proven strategic innovation & creativity skills
  • Analytical skills - both qualitative and quantitative
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of research techniques, and processes
  • Strong workflow management skills including organizational, time/project management, planning and implementation, prioritization, ability to delegate when necessary
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work in very fast-paced, deadline-driven team environment

The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range from $60,000 to $140,000. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including business needs, experience, level of responsibility and qualifications.
