Your Opportunity
As a Senior Structural Engineer within Stantec your primary role will be to support project execution as a project structural technical lead and discipline engineer for a variety of projects with varying size and complexity. You will participate and oversee the structural team for the evaluation, design, and specification of structural and foundation systems for projects, verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices. You will work across sectors including thermal generation, heavy industrial process, and renewable energy
Your Key Responsibilities
- Preparing structural design calculations in accordance with applicable design codes and standards (i.e. IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE).
- Work with a team of engineers and designers to develop and issue study reports, construction drawings and technical specifications
- Develop construction quantities, estimate construction costs, and utilize estimating software to create project cost reports
- Interface with clients, vendors, and contractors to develop work scopes, engineering man hour estimates, proposals, design criteria and conceptual/final designs
- Develop and check superstructure and foundation designs utilizing steel, concrete, and masonry as construction materials. Work will be performed using:
- Hand calculations
- Spreadsheets
- Structural analysis software, including finite element analysis
- Perform field work to obtain field dimensions and obtain existing drawing information in support of project deliverables
- Review shop drawings and vendor submittals
- Review and answer contractor requests for information
- Work in the field to monitor construction activities and produce field reports
- Regular collaboration with colleagues in other offices and different areas of expertise in an integrated design environment.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Professional Engineer registration within the United States
- Knowledge of IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE, standards
- Good verbal and written communication skills required
- Ability to work with a design team on assignments
- Must have good driving record and valid Driver's License.
- Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug screen.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree and/or Masters Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Concentration
- 10 to 20 years of Structural Engineering and Design experience working in a consulting engineering environment
