Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Structural Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects and resolve problems of greater scope and complexity.
  • Plan and develop projects or design activities with a significant impact on major company programs as needed.
  • Plan, organize and supervise work of structural engineers and technicians.
  • Perform structural analysis and detailed design of concrete, steel, aluminum, and masonry structural systems and foundations for buildings and water, wastewater, power, public works, and other infrastructure projects.
  • Complete, check, and coordinate structural calculations and contract documents.
  • Write and edit structural specifications.
  • Coordinate the work of structural design teams through design development and construction phases of a project.
  • Review structural documents for completion and conflicts with other engineering disciplines.
  • Manage workload and budget for structural projects.
  • Perform and report results of structural condition assessments of existing facilities.
  • Perform field inspections of construction projects and assist with preparation of addenda, RFI responses, and change orders.
  • Evaluate geotechnical report findings for civil and structural foundation design work. Select and design appropriate foundation systems.
  • Meet with clients, owners, operators, and governing agencies to determine structural requirements.
  • Participate in work-sharing and structural practice development with a nation-wide network of HDR structural engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • PE with Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Structural emphasis.
  • 10 years structural engineering experience in building or infrastructure facility design.
  • Familiarity with seismic and wind requirements of International Building Code and ASCE-7.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software (STAAD, RISA, ETABS, SAFE, or similar) and structural design software.
  • Autodesk Revit BIM experience as user or checker.
  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering, Structural emphasis preferred.
  • Preference given to local candidates.
