Senior Studio Technician

What We’re Looking For:
The main purpose of this position is the creation of engaging and skills-imparting video content with a focus on quality, efficiency and innovation. This is achieved by providing support related to studio technical operations to produce videos to the highest standard as well as supporting on high priority projects. The production of videos includes the planning, setup, filming, and maintenance of studio spaces for in-studio recordings. The Sr. technician is a subject matter expert in the production field and is responsible for training other technicians on the team.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Technical Operations:
- Operations of prompters for live and recorded programing.
- Video control room operations.
- Operation of studio and robotic cameras (cinema, ENG, Jib).
- Manage Studio floor for live and recorded programming.
- Operate video switchers.
- Operate audio consoles.
- Knowledge of patch panels.
- Set up of Stand alone and grid lighting.
- Training/Coaching:
- Responsible for training internal 2U staff and external vendors on related 2U technical processes utilized in the production of assets, to include filming/recording, audio, and lighting equipment.
- Develop expertise on all aspects of 2U’s studio production environment including deployment of equipment and on location set ups.
- Develop and maintain training materials including user-guides, documentation, screen share recordings, etc. for user groups.
- Communicate rollouts of new video production tools and resources to user groups.
- Coordinating the live/recording and switching of productions with multiple sources including cameras, playbacks and feeds:
- Works with producers and supervisors to develop specific ideas on how to best present subject matter experts.
- Monitors recordings for format and technical quality to ensure proper timing and pacing.
- Facilitates planning, filming logistics and bookings with service providers. This includes sourcing, invoicing and equipment procurement relating to filming.Â
- Experience in Live Streaming and Encoding software/hardware.
- Miscellaneous duties as needed, including equipment maintenance coordination and tracking, and preparation of studio spaces.
Things That Should Be In Your Background:
- Relevant experience in television production and workflows.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrable endorsement and respect from colleagues/teachers/mentors.
- Ability to operate video and lighting equipment.
- Track record of initiative taken in previous work/position and evidence of positive impact.
- 5+ years work experience.
- Preferred, though not required, a degree in a media-related course of study.
- Working Conditions: This role typically works 9:00 AM-5:00 PM with breaks throughout the day. Occasional travel or work outside of these hours may be needed. This role requires on-site presence at 2U HQ.
- Physical Requirements: Lifting of mildly heavy camera equipment, and standing for extended periods of time during in-person filming (where applicable).
This fully on-site position is open to those who live in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area and who are available to come into our Headquarters in Lanham, MD five days a week.
