Job Description:

Primary Purpose of Role: 

The Senior Supervisor, Operations is responsible for the supervision of a medium to large group of employees involved in plant production operations. The supervisor utilizes Lean Manufacturing and Total Productive Maintenance techniques to continually improve the operational metrics of the area. Work is generally of a technical nature with the ability to make decisions in accordance with the company policies and practices.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Participates in the training and development of new employees.

  • Manages personnel, material, and equipment safely and effectively.

  • Leads daily start of shift meetings with assigned group and end of shift meetings with leadership.

  • Lead continuous improvement activities in assigned group and across shifts.

  • Meets production cost, schedules, and quality requirements through the utilization of established manufacturing processes and methods. 

  • Facilitates floor operations and removes barriers for employees to meet measurable objectives.

  • Analyze metrics of production to drive decision-making.

  • Implements and maintains Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

  • Complies with and implements the terms of the labor agreement and company policies.

  • Works cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to problem-solve and improve efficiency.

  • Willing to work any shift assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required: 

  • Associate Degree and/or equivalent experience required 

Preferred:

  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in Engineering or technical discipline

Experience: 

 Required: 

  • 3+ years' supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment

 

Preferred: 

  • 5+ years’ Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment. 

Competencies and Behaviors: 

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures. 

  • Strong continuous improvement mindset

  • Familiarity with problem-solving processes such as PDCA, 8D

  • Oral and written communication skills. 

  • Knowledge of scheduling and other management systems. 

  • Analytical ability for solving complex problems. 

  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees and elicit work output. 

  • Knowledge of safety and environmental practices. 

  • Knowledge of quality control procedures. 

  • Advanced computer skills.  

  • Ability to adapt to changes in responsibility based on business needs. 

Scope Factors: 

  • Second level supervisor: Responsible for supervising a team; includes mentoring, providing training, monitoring work quality, coaching on performance and contributing to pay decisions/changes; responsible for the quality of results produced by the team.

  • Supervises team of hourly/support employees, first level-supervisors or small team of professional/technical employees

  • Frequently interacts with direct leadership, peers and direct reports within the same function.

  • Experienced people supervisor with full-time supervisory level responsible for an assigned work group

  • Supervises a group that typically consists of professional or support level with similar or varied skills.

  • Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work with other supervisors.

  • Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will cause delays in schedules
