Our team is currently seeking a Senior Systems Architect/Systems Engineer to support the Ground Systems and Mission Operations-3 (GSMO-3) program at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. The Senior Systems Architect will design and deploy technical solutions for satellite mission services using scalable technologies in a mission critical environment. This position will explore existing systems for reuse and guide the team in designing new systems to include scalable Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Cloud based technologies.

ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work as part of the engineering team applying excellent customer service skills to act as the central point of contact for all Linux related activities and seek ways to improve the environment.
  • Provide technical expertise in the areas of system design, installation, configuration, tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Provide technical guidance and maintain operations standards.
  • Participate in validation efforts to independently test and validate solutions to ensure fulfillment of all business requirements, compliance of regulations, and quality of solutions.
  • Build, deploy, manage, and maintain new and existing infrastructure systems.
  • Monitor and analyze data center infrastructure resources and system applications.
  • Implement and maintain backup redundancy strategies.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to define policies, procedures, and technical documentation including reports, designs, and operational support procedures.
  • Lead the on-going development of automation strategies and the security of the managed infrastructure systems.
  • Analyze, configure, install, upgrade, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, patch, compile, secure, and repair Linux servers in a heterogeneous environment.
  • Engage with management and stakeholders regarding requirements, status reports, activity summaries, and achievements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:

  • Bachelor's degree in technology or computer science and at least 7 years of industry experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Strong RHEL/Linux/Unix background, scripting experience (Shell/Perl/Python, or related language), and a strong understanding of network protocols and principles (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
  • Experience with designing/managing virtual infrastructures (VMWare/Nutanix/Hyper-V).

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with AWS technologies such as S3, EMR/EC2, and Cloudwatch.
  • Configuration Management experience using Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Familiar with container software tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with security tools such as Splunk, BigFix, and Forescout.

Experience with database management tools such MSSQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL
