Job Description Summary

Join the rapidly growing team of motivated Systems Engineers at AAM developing the industry's innovative driveline products! Our Senior System Engineers work in a team environment to take our customer's vision and turn it into products using validated industry system engineering tools and processes. Our projects are highly sophisticated and require strategic direction, cross-disciplinary integration and testing, and resourcefulness of approach. Our Senior System Engineers are also our front-line driving engineering-oriented problem solving into our development. The right candidate will have a strong understanding of electric drive unit architectures, electric beam axle experience is an added bonus. At AAM, we're bringing the future faster!

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for cascading of specifications from system to components and delivery of product designs.
• Advises and collaborates with other team members to develop the concepts, package 3D models, detailed design, simulation, DFMEA, and DVP.
• Lead the design of new parts in CAD and review FEA results to make design judgements on all structural components.
• Perform engineering calculations: bolted joints, press fits, required machined stock, hand calculations
• Provide direction on structural rib design for strength and stiffness, housing thickness for casting, housing acoustics
• Complete the timely delivery of new and updated drawings and bills of materials.
• Support System and Design FMEA with engineering quality department.
• Support internal departments in acquiring customer approval for design changes and deviations.
• Responsible for all structural components in the eAxle, including housings, ERW or DOM axle tubing, stamped suspensions brackets, etc.

Required Skills and Education

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required
• 4+ years of experience within axle drives or transmissions focused on housing structures and castings.
• Electric axle experience strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational/communication skills to effectively work within Departments.
• Strong oral and written technical communication skills required
• Must have excellent understanding of structural & fatigue analysis associated with beam axle loading.
• External and internal contacts with high degree of diplomacy, judgment and possess ability to deal with and effectively influence persons in all types of positions.
• High level of analytical ability, understanding of engineering theory, and principles of design.

Preferred:

• Working knowledge of 3D CAD NX.
• Expertise in structural and housing designs including design modifications using sound engineering principles, GD&T, and tolerance stacks with a strong understanding of manufacturing design guidelines
• Beam axle experience
