Senior Systems Engineer

Encodia is a rapidly growing platform company that is developing a new generation of protein analysis tools based on single-molecule protein sequencing. Our goal is to make protein sequencing easy and ubiquitous by using a novel technology that turns peptide sequences into DNA. The DNA can be read by a DNA sequencer, providing a path to breakthrough proteomics research at a scale that is more practical and cost-effective than current technologies. We are looking for driven and passionate engineers to drive the innovation, design, and development of an instrument to run our proprietary biochemistry. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in system integration, troubleshooting, and testing and will contribute to the development of robust, high quality products through the integration of hardware, software, and chemistry components. In this role, you will optimize system performance, solve complex challenges and perform iterative testing. Additionally, we are looking for a creative and strong technical individual, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Requirements

Your Responsibilities

• Hands-on testing and integration of protein sequencing systems - hardware, firmware, software, chemistry/reagents, and application components
• Tracking and logging of issues encountered during the development process
• Troubleshooting and resolving system level performance issues in a timely manner
• Work closely and effectively with Assay Integration and other functional teams to determine root cause
• Provide quality internal customer support on our fleet of instruments
• Write new procedures for sub-system level and systems level characterizations
• Ensuring decisions are data-driven, by designing experiments, analyzing data, and presenting results.

What You Bring to This Role

• 5+ years of overall experience with focus on instrument development and repair. Previous experience with similarly complex instrumentation (fluidics, consumables, motion control) is highly desirable.
• Experience in Python programming for scripting applications is highly desired
• Demonstrated ability to solve difficult hardware/software/chemistry integration issues
• Must be passionate about troubleshooting and problem-solving and be extremely organized and detailed oriented
• A desire to be a part of a fast paced, multidisciplinary and dynamic environment is a must
• Creative, proactive, excellent team player with solid communication skills; ability to multitask and work independently.

Compensation: $106,000 - $164,500/year. While compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
