The role, at a glance:

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will evaluate, plan, deploy and maintain complex systems and associated support systems. You will make recommendations for resources and procedural changes required to maintain and/or expand service levels. You will also provide highly skilled technical assistance in systems analysis, planning, engineering, and architecture. In addition, you can expect to plan and implement systems to support IaaS and PaaS operations, management, and security functions, as well as assess enterprise needs and perform feasibility studies for medium to large-sized projects. The Senior Systems Engineer will also develop technical standards and interface applications, evaluate new products, coordinate with vendors to identify and purchase software, hardware, and cabling, and develop support procedures and create user and technical documentation.

How you’ll contribute: 

  • Work closely with IT, product engineering and other teams to understand network, systems, and security needs, provide guidance and solutions for connectivity and services. 

  • Design, Develop and Implement cloud infrastructure components (network, compute, storage, orchestration, security, etc.) based on architecture requirements. 

  • Define and track metrics for the usage of the systems, propose and implement changes that improve reliability, reduce cost, and improve security. 

  • Perform design, deployment, configuration, and management of all systems infrastructure. 

  • Schedule and perform maintenance including implementations, upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning of systems infrastructure where required. 

  • Document processes, procedures, designs, and topology and maintain asset database for installed and available equipment and components. 

  • Be responsible for evolving the on-prem, Azure, AWS and Partners systems connectivity while continually improving its security and reliability. 

  • Implement and maintain systems monitoring, alerting, logging, configuration management, and analysis tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Beats, SNMP, and other tools. 

  • Secure business applications, systems, telephony, and compute environments across public, private or hybrid cloud infrastructures. 

  • Assist with development, maintenance, and utilization of scripts for network and systems automation. 

  • Actively monitor, assess, and recommend tactical and strategic initiatives based on new and emerging threats posing risk to private, public and hybrid cloud systems and computing environments. 

  • Attend and fully engage in incident response, documentation, and reporting. 

  • Attend and fully engage in policy and procedure development, change and project management. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

A successful candidate should have:

  • 5+ years of relevant Systems Compute, Storage, Networking and Security Engineering experience. 

  • 3+ years of experience in building and maintain public, private and hybrid cloud environments. 

  • In-depth experience of Docker, Kubernetes, Openstack and VMWare virtualization, orchestration, and containerization environments. 

  • In-depth experience of Windows Servers, Linux Servers, Jenkins, Jira, Docker Registries, MySQL, CEPH, Swift, S3.

  • Experience in services such as SIP, Call Routing, QOS, DNS, DHCP, NTP, PTP, Radius, LDAP, Active Directory, SSH, SCP, Certificate Authorities. 

  • Experience with network automation, programming languages and scripting, (e.g., Bash, Python, NETCONF, Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell and/or equivalent a huge plus). 

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure or Amazon Compute, Storage, Security and Network Services environments. 

  • Experience with log aggregation and search tools including ElasticSearch, logstatsh, filebeats, Graylog, Grafana, Prometheus, Windows Logs and rsyslog. 

  • Experience Installing, Operating and Maintaining Services in a private (Openstack/Vmware), public (Azure/AWS) cloud and bare metal environments. 

  • Strong understanding of low level network concepts including vlans, port channel bonding and layer2/layer 3 switch interactions. 

Some nice-to-haves: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business information systems, Computer/Information Science, or related field preferred. Experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. 

  • Experience in a manufacturing and or hardware/software engineering environment a plus. 

  • Experience in Debian, Openstack environments a plus.
