Senior Systems Engineer - Clinical Imaging

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA. The Systems Engineering group includes cross-functional team members spanning a number of design and engineering disciplines. As a Systems Engineer in this role, you will work as a key contributing member for the imaging and video pipeline of our next generation robotics platform - working alongside a highly skilled team and driving design, integration, & testing of our novel imaging system.

As a key member of our team of mission-driven and kind individuals with diverse experience, you’ll help lead Vicarious into its next phase of innovation by contributing to all aspects of the imaging system design, functional and logical architecture, and medical device design controls. Specific responsibilities are listed below.

Responsibilities

• Interface with key stakeholders, including marketing and surgeons, to translate evolving market needs to refined system and subsystem requirements
• Perform functional analysis and decomposition, develop and manage product requirements, and refine system and subsystem architectures
• Support system level development and design decisions for image acquisition, processing and display from photon-in to photon-out
• Engage with design quality assurance in risk management activities, including risk assessment and risk mitigation strategies
• Assist in driving compliance with standards including IEC 60601-1, ISO 14971, ISO 13485, and IEC 62366-1
• Oversee regulated development processes and standards for risk management, useability, and safety to ensure system design and documentation meet relevant safety and regulatory standards
• Drive system level image and video quality verification preparation via test method development and validation
• Collaborate with Core Teams and Project Management to meet strategic goals and deliverables
• Opportunities to mentor and coach junior engineers on best practices and strategies

About You

• Minimum of a BS in an engineering discipline (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, etc)
• 5+ years of experience in the medical device industry including 3+ years working on imaging systems
• Deep understanding of structured product development cycle (VOC input gathering for de novo devices, requirements-driven engineering, documentation & review, rigorous verification)
• Thorough understanding of image quality metrics and associated standards, including experience testing to:
• MTF/SFR (slanted edge - ISO 12233)
• CTF
• OECF (ISO 14524)
• uniformity (ISO 17957)
• image noise (ISO 15739)
• DeltaE and related colorimetry standards
• ISO 8600 series
• In depth understanding of V&V approaches and pitfalls for imaging
• Able to design and release fixtures and test methods applying above standards to a medical device system; experience validating test methods w/ gage R&R, capability analysis, measurement uncertainty, and compliance to standards
• Highly organized and independent - able to self manage priorities to meet timelines
• Demonstrated track record of successfully driving complex projects to completion
• Personable team player - able to work directly with individuals with varying skills and experiences
• Strong verbal and written communication skills - able to precisely articulate complex technical concepts and generate persuasive and comprehensive documentation

Nice to Have

• Comfort in reviewing & debugging schematics and PCB layouts
• Knowledge of related python libraries: pillow, scikit-image
• Experience working with C++ and/or C# with a conversant knowledge of memory management, abstraction layers, object orientation vs. imperative programming, and other related computer science topics commonly encountered in the design of imaging systems
• Understanding of agile scrum and how to set direction as a technical lead and product owner (writing lower level detailed technical roadmaps and architecture documents, guiding a team through execution, etc)
