Job Description:

Airbus Robotics is looking for a qualified individual to fill an opening for Senior Systems Engineer. Airbus Robotics designs, manufactures, and integrates automated assembly and control systems for research and industrial manufacturing applications in the aerospace industry. Our tools are used in the direct manufacture of large-scale aerospace structures. Salaried exempt position ranging $126,000-$182,000 depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical and Controls System Design
    • Research, select, and apply sensors, communication technologies, or control devices for motion control, position sensing, pressure sensing, or electronic communication.
    • Create, review, and maintain electrical design documentation such as schematic diagrams and layout documents.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve electromechanical issues. This includes work with common tools such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, etc.
    • Performs hands-on work when needed.
  • Software Engineering
    • Develop architecture and software for embedded systems, HMIs, and peripherals.
    • Understand, develop, and debug low-level software routines as well as system-wide software architectures.
  • Mechanical Engineering
    • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Commissioning
    • Perform system setup and commissioning of company products for deployment at customer sites or at company's workshop.
    • Create documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
    • Serve as liaison with customers to resolve problems and inquiries.
  • Project Manage and Document
    • Crafts project plans, setting goals/target specs, and KPIs. Owns the quality of execution, iteration speed, quality of the decision-making, and quality of the results (as appropriate) of projects. Leads projects and is responsible for technical leadership within projects. Consistently and successfully delegates work and divides up complex tasks for project teams.
  • People Development
    • Develops, plans, and executes projects and leads one or more engineers technically. Guides and trains other members of the project team. Assists in the career development of one or more junior engineers.

Some experience with the following:

  • Researching and selecting appropriate sensors for a given electromechanical design
  • Motor tuning procedures for many classes of motors, especially DC brushless servos and associated PID tuning for point-to-point and free-running applications. This includes the ability to troubleshoot poorly performing motor systems and apply solutions through improved tuning parameters or techniques.
  • Embedded system development including circuit board development and troubleshooting, commercial microprocessor platforms and architectures (e.g. ARM), and memory management.
  • C/C++ and (optionally) .NET C#, JavaScript, JSON, and Node.js. Can understand, develop, and debug low-level software routines as well as system-wide software architectures.
  • Troubleshooting electromechanical problems, identifying the most likely faults in the mechanical, electrical or software depending on the fault
  • Mechanical and electrical design tools such as Solidworks, Catia, Altium, etc.
  • Safety risk assessments including identifying risks and appropriately mitigating those risks according to required performance levels.
  • PLCs and safety controllers, especially Siemens products
  • System level architecture including functional analysis, block diagrams, network diagrams, etc.
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility, including emissions and immunity.

Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of experience with a Bachelor's degree. Five or more years of experience with a Master's Degree. Three or more years of experience with a PhD.
  • Able to act independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments. Acts as a role model for junior engineers. Approachable for technical guidance and mentorship and supervises the activities of others.
  • Working knowledge of the following platforms: Windows 7 desktop and Linux embedded products.
  • Proficiency with machine shop tools: drill press, lathe, sanders and band saw.
  • The knowledge and interpersonal capability to work within an engineering development team that spans multiple disciplines (electrical, software, mechanical, systems engineering).
  • Professional, consistent, calm, clear, and confident oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent skills with typical productivity tools such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
  • The ability to manage and resolve conflict between Airbus Robotics' employees and customers, balancing business and customer needs while maintaining relationships.
