Vertex is growing! We have an immediate career-growth opportunity for a collaborative and highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our Systems Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN supporting F-16 platform systems integration. The Senior Systems Engineer will work within a multi-discipline team of engineers providing leadership and guidance to address our customer's needs for rapid capability integration that provides superior combat relevance and readiness across the airborne fleet via avionics upgrades and technology insertion. The Senior Systems Engineer provides program support throughout the development life cycle, from concept development, requirements definition, functional analysis, design review support, system implementation, integration, verification, and validation.

The ideal candidate has strong communication and team building skills and embraces modern development processes and techniques that improve product quality and team productivity. We are looking for engineers that enjoy a challenge and have a passion to support our DoD customers and international allies. The candidate must be familiar with the Systems Engineering lifecycle and have experience applying technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, processes, and techniques to solve problems.

Our Indianapolis facility also supports a variety of other product lines serving multiple DoD customers providing the opportunity to work on a diverse set of programs and roles supporting the continued advancement of your career.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience in systems, software, or hardware engineering
  • Experience with avionics systems.
  • Experience with requirements development, integration, and test.
  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively communicate to internal and external stakeholders.

Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain an Active DoD Secret Clearance.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with design, integration, and certification of embedded hardware and software subsystems, transitioning products from development to production, and obsolescence management.
  • Experience with Agile or DevOps software development.
  • Familiarity with project management including cost, schedule, supplier management, risk, and opportunity assessment.
  • Experience implementing performance requirements (i.e. -ilities) such as Reliability, Testability, Maintainability, Producibility, and System/Software Safety.
  • Experience creating Trade Studies and analyzing technical data.
  • Familiarity with Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
  • Experience using IBM DOORS Next Generation (DNG) and Rational Quality Manager (RQM) for requirements management and verification.
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering methods, tools, and languages.
  • Experience with DoD open systems architectures and protocols (FACE, SOSA, MOSA, WOSA, etc.)
  • Experience working with government customers including the US Army, US Navy, USMC and/or USAF.
  • Experience with US Government airworthiness processes (ex. MIL-HDBK-516, EDRAP) and certification boards.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Industry and Government Standards such as: DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, DO-254, DO-178, MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, and Universal Armament Interface (UAI).

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline
  • Requires advanced knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have practical knowledge of project management. Practical to substantial knowledge of RTX projects, programs or systems with the ability to make enhancements and leverage in daily work.

Typically requires:

A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience

Engineering/Other Technical Positions:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
