Job Description

About Epirus

Epirus is a high-growth technology company that develops solid-state, human-safe directed energy systems that enable unprecedented counter-electronics effects and power management solutions to enhance power efficiency in defense and commercial electronics. With a constant emphasis on innovation, we are redefining modern power systems to increase the velocity of change for our customers and bring tomorrow's capabilities to life, today.

Job objective: Epirus’ Leonidas product line features variants of our High Power Microwave Phased Array technology. This technology revolutionizes High Power Microwave (RF Directed Energy) with the many advantages of solid-state RF amplifiers and phased array antennas, over older legacy architectures. This role is for an engineer with experience leading complex electro-mechanical systems through integration and test. This includes work throughout the development lifecycle, from contributing to requirements development at the system, subsystem, and component levels, creating test plans, specifying test station hardware and software needs, leading the development of new test stations/procedures and hand-off to manufacturing / test engineers, analyzing test results, debugging unexpected issues, and ultimately final sell-off of products before customer delivery. A Systems Integration Engineer will need to become familiar with the entire system, including electrical, mechanical, digital, and software subsystems. They will coordinate with hardware design engineers and software engineers to ensure design details are aligned and components will integrate together to meet system-level needs. They will also develop end-to-end tests and demos (from software interface to over-the-air RF) to validate new hardware/software/firmware, characterize system performance, and demonstrate product capabilities.

Duties:
  • Coordinate key requirements with subsystem design teams
  • Capture and promote Design-for-Test best practices
  • Design integration tests, including required hardware, software, lab equipment, and procedures
  • Work with subsystem teams to characterize and resolve integration / operational issues
  • Work with lab equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, function generators, VNAs, RF signal generators, DAQs, etc.) to characterize hardware, including possibly writing software to automate measurements and data analysis
  • Work side-by-side with test engineers and technicians to knowledge-transfer new test procedures and debug issues
  • Contribute to Qualification and Acceptance Test Planning and Verification, from component levels, to subsystem and system levels, including RF Chamber testing and Field testing
  • Design system-level final check-out procedures
 Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 7+ years experience, including system/product level integration & test experience
  • US Citizen (future security clearance may be required)
 Desired Qualifications:
  • Good written and oral communication skills; not afraid to speak up, either to ask for help or disagree on a technical point that warrants more discussion
  • Collaborative; capable of working across all levels of the organization
  • Eager to learn and to help others on the team
  • Organized; comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Focused on rapidly delivering customer value
  • Familiarity with RF systems (e.g. radar, comms, EW, etc.), preferably including phased arrays
  • Familiarity with environmental requirements and verification (shock/vibe, humidity, temperature, dust/sand, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Requirements and Verification Management tools, and Manufacturing Execution System tools
  • Familiarity with electrical lab equipment (oscilloscopes, VNAs, etc.)
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (preferably Python and/or MATLAB)

At Epirus, we work to create innovative power solutions to solve some of the world’s most complex problems. We are forward thinking in nature and committed to bringing tomorrow’s capabilities to life, today. To deliver on our mission, our team is comprised of individuals with deep expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering (including radio frequency and digital circuit design) as well as software design. We are always looking for top-tier problem solvers and changemakers to join our fast-growing team.
