OPPORTUNITY
The purpose of this position is to support Hydrite’s compliance with all state, local, and federal tax regulations and filings. This position will primarily be responsible for executing the sales and use tax strategy and managing and continuously improving the workflow processes. This position is also responsible and accountable for the preparation of the required state and local sales tax filings as well as being the point of contact for any sales and use tax audits including internal Hydrite sales and use tax inquiries. Additionally, this function will also support federal and state income tax compliance, including deferred taxes.
As a Senior Tax Analyst, primary responsibilities include:
- Assist in implementation of sales tax software (Vertex) and become proficient in monthly, quarterly and annual filings.
- Research and identify tax incentives opportunities for income, personal property and sales and use tax.
- Assesses potential and/or actual complex transactions, identifies risks and opportunities and makes recommendations based on findings with the goal of minimizing the tax burden and maximizing cash flow.
- Researches and interprets tax laws and assesses the company’s policies to ensure that taxes are prepared in compliance with current tax rules and legislation.
- Execute sales and use tax strategy
- Responsible for the accurate and timely filing of all state and local sales tax returns
- Update state sales tax rates and monitor sales and use tax code changes to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Review all exemption forms submitted by new and existing customers for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance for collecting and remitting all necessary state and local sales tax.
- Prepare nexus analysis and review with management to ensure compliance
- Complete internal state tax audits and implement corrective action
- Continuously improve the sales and use tax workflow process
- Research state and local tax laws especially for new ship-to locations
- Assist in the preparation of real estate, personal property, and business tax incentive filings.
- Manage the procedures and work with appropriate personnel to improve the accuracy of use tax paid.
- Manage Maximo PO request and invoices so that proper use tax is paid.
- Research and answer all state sales and use tax inquiries.
- Prepare any required governmental reporting requests.
- Administer short pay credits related to sales tax and/or assist with the collection of prior sales tax short pays.
- Maintain the sales tax guide reflecting filing and nexus status for each state.
- Assist the tax director with federal and state income tax compliance, as directed.
- Respond to tax notices received as necessary.
- Prepare and collect the year-end schedules needed for income tax preparation.
- Perform all duties outlined in relevant SOPs and all other duties to be assigned.
- Works with other staff members to maintain workload balances. Provides back-up support as necessary.
- Supports effective communication with all Hydrite departments where responsibilities overlap to ensure success of the branch team.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
- This position reports to the Tax Director.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL CRITERIA
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
- Working knowledge of tax compliance is required with at least 2-5 years of related work experience.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Demonstrated proficient/knowledge of financial systems and spreadsheet applications.
- Possesses good analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Good presentation and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate in English.
- Must have communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to read, write, and speak English.
