Job Description

This position is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of any assumed individual life or health products and related retrocession treaties for assigned client companies. With both ad hoc data analysis tools and Swiss Re reinsurance administration systems the incumbent performs reasonableness checks for both premium and policy data quality and manages cash allocations and disbursements. Where applicable, they are responsible for booking policy level data for use by Actuarial Management (AM), Inforce Management (IFM) and Finance for purposes of regulatory and financial reporting along with managing the overall inforce block of business. Incumbent creates and maintains policy master information, where applicable, and assures treaty compliance on all records and reports, including inputs to the management of Swiss Re's retention. Incumbent supports the Claim Process through building of claim skeleton records as needed. Incumbent will have extensive client contact, and will work with other departments to assist in servicing client accounts. Incumbents at this level are accountable for administering the more complex and high profile accounts and need to be proficient using various data analytic tools and agile in their approach to identifying issue root causes and implementing solutions. Incumbent must be able to work within tight deadlines to meet cash close dates along with recency and key performance indicator targets.

Essential Responsibilities - describe the major responsibilities of this position in order of importance. Please include an estimate of the % of time spent on each responsibility

  • Process client's files, electronic or otherwise, using Swiss Re's Message Management system or comparable Swiss Re system. Analyze output to resolve all exceptions. Work with stakeholders like Data Management (DM) Business Managers (BM) and Quality Assurance (QA), as needed, to identify and suggest needed changes to client's systems and data reported on client's files. Ensure the quality of financial and policy data contained in Swiss Re systems for use by all stakeholders. Initiating workarounds/solutions for unusual client reporting challenges. Incumbent's should independently monitor their account recency and take the initiative to collaborate within the team to offer support as needed to ensure overall TA business targets are met. 50%
  • Accountable for thorough reconciliation and analysis of client's policy and financial data files ensuring, where applicable, Swiss Re's segmentation is in alignment with the client's file. Timely escalates material financial, policy volume/risk variances, or noticeable deviations to anticipated trends to QA, management and appropriate stakeholders. Often requires timely interfaces with client to review and resolve issues. As senior TA, the incumbent may assist less experienced colleagues in identifying and implementing the most efficient approach to managing technical and client related challenges. The solutions may range from data patches and process workaround to collaborating with the BM to influence the client's data quality. 20%
  • Maintains strong relationships with external clients and demonstrates an ability to influence them regarding the timeliness of their payments and quality of data. 10%
  • Reviews reported claims to determine whether Swiss Re is on the risk for all applicable claims (examples include death, WOP and DI claims) and to determine that premiums are paid to a current date. Builds skeletal records on the Claims Manager system and establishes claim liability via building of claim records, under the correct treaty and pricing segment. 10%
  • Assists, where appropriate, with the preparatory account deep dives and client onsite reviews. Supports client reviews through timely premium validation investigations. Demonstrates the ability to rapidly gain an understanding of the client's systems and processes and offer new deal due diligence support as needed. 5%
  • Accountable for premium collection and cash flow management for assigned accounts. Escalates delinquencies in accordance with business guidelines. Ensure unallocated cash remains current within predetermined targets and promptly reports all outliers to management along with supporting documentation for actions taken to date. Manage assigned retrocession billing and collection duties. 5%

  • Assists other departments, including claims, underwriting, sales, actuarial, and treaty with administrative functions
  • Actively participate in cross-functional global projects and the development of global best practice, as needed.
  • Quarterly support for aged and incomplete cash receipts and unsettled balances.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in an Accounting/Finance related discipline; or 2-4 years related experience, in a reinsurance/ insurance environment, demonstrated application of reinsurance terms & conditions and knowledge of risk transfer options
  • Strong math skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to trace and correct issues and/or problems. Interest and desire for understanding the process of addressing issues, problems and sorting through the key steps involved to arrive at the source. Skills include critical thinking and defining issues.
  • Possesses a strong knowledge of computer fundamentals. Takes full advantage of computer programs and automation.
  • Uses office tools to maximize productivity. (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access). Including the use of pivot tables, vlook-ups, etc. Skill level should be evident from experience and past projects.
  • Ability to extract correct data, analyze, transform and visualize with the goal of discovering useful information to assist with the decision-making.
  • Willing to learn new tools/applications and ability to apply knowledge to new situations. Ability to find and seize opportunity to improve operations and processes within our focused goals to drive growth in new, ambiguous situations by learning and adapting when confronted with foreseen and unforeseen circumstances, crises and complex problems.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple priorities within tight deadlines

  • Effective written and oral communication skills. Conveying the information simply and clearly, anticipating and eliminating likely causes of confusion. Probes and asks questions to fully and deeply understand and clarify the interest, needs and constraints of the opposing party.
  • Insurance and reinsurance experience/knowledge preferred.
  • Continual progression to obtain LOMA/ARA designation, or equivalent work experience

  • All disbursements must be approved.
  • Incumbent must act independently within a relatively short time after basic training, but will have higher level Technical Accountants available to assist and answer questions.
  • Potential for high downstream impact due to errors such as inaccurate regulatory reporting and inaccurate level of reserves held. Financial errors may affect profit picture for a treaty, a client or for the line of business.
