Senior Technical Accounting Manager

The role:

We are looking for a Temporary Senior Technical Accounting Manager to oversee technical accounting transactions and related projects as well as ensure that high risk accounts are properly accounted for. This position will require technical accounting research and accounting documentation while actively maintaining and updating Newsela’s accounting policies. The position will also be responsible for the implementation of new and modified accounting guidance while working with appropriate teams to ensure proper adoption. Your work will help enable quality reporting and accounting operations that support the growth of our business. Ultimately this growth will broaden our product’s reach and bring engaging culturally responsive learning content to K-12 teachers and students nationwide.

You will:

• Lead the research and evaluation of transactions legal contracts business practices new and modified accounting guidance and policies for compliance with accounting and reporting standards

• Interact with external auditors on technical accounting issues and assist in the support of the annual audit

• Prepare and/or update technical accounting memos and process walkthroughs related but not limited to accounting for capitalized software stock based compensation and purchase price accounting providing both technical and/or operational knowledge

• Prepare technical accounting analysis related to new transactions and new or evolving products

• Work closely with our external auditors on technical accounting matters and bring any accounting analysis to closure in a timely manner

• Draft original footnote disclosures during the financial statements preparation

• Respond to technical accounting inquiries from auditors and communicate technical accounting matters and concepts to all levels within the organization

• Assist in the assessment and review of financial controls established over technical accounting areas

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; CPA preferred

• 5+ years of accounting experience with public accounting experience

• Well-versed in technical accounting documentation and providing support for financial statement audit

• Skilled in solving problems and making decisions

• Skilled in sharing information with others and facilitating the open exchange of ideas and information

Base compensation: $120000 - $145000. Total compensation for this role also includes benefits. This compensation range may be adjusted based on actual experience.

Please note this is a temporary assignment starting as soon as possible and ending around late July 2024. There is the potential to convert to full-time employment following the initial assignment.
