Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, edit, and review technical content.
  • Learn both the technical and business processes for assigned applications as well as any integrations/overlaps with other applications.
  • Write, revise, compile, and publish documentation for product releases.
  • Develop in-depth feature documentation and other deliverables through all stages of the writing process.
  • Participate in needs analyses:

    • Gather information.
    • Synthesize and organize content.
    • Write or develop content.
    • Validate the material.
  • Develop content in a variety of media; use judgment to choose the right tool for the communication challenge. Create illustrations, tables, figures, and graphs to explain complex ideas.
  • Coordinate documentation projects across roles to ensure their timely completion.
  • Recommend and implement new technologies in product documentation.
  • Lead and contribute to process evaluation and improvement.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School diploma required.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communication, Journalism, or related experience preferred.
  • Certification or formal training in technical communication strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a technical communication role required.
  • Previous years of experience in a software development environment required.
  • Certification or formal training in technical communication strongly preferred.
  • Membership in the Society for Technical Communication or other professional association of technical writers is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrated accountability in project ownership and solution-oriented work approach.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other teams to gather, create, and validate technical deliverables.
  • Ability to manage priorities and projects across multiple applications.
  • Enthusiasm for continuous learning; ability and willingness to develop skills in new communication and technology tools.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and research skills.
  • Ability to gather, synthesize, and organize large amounts of complex technical information.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects to meet milestones and deadlines.
  • Ability to evaluate audience and express complex ideas clearly and accurately.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time at stationary workstation.
  • Regularly carry, raise, and lower objects of up to 25 Lbs.
  • Learn and comprehend basic instructions.
  • Focus and attention to tasks and responsibilities.
  • Verbal communication; listening and understanding, responding, and speaking.
