Job Description:
Microchip Technology Inc. has a Senior Technical Staff Engineer-Architect opening based in Houston, TX. As a Senior Technical Staff Engineer in the Microchip Data Center Solutions group, you will be responsible for setting the direction for a diverse portfolio of products for the Data Center market. Throughout you will work beside experienced engineers and be exposed to Microchip's Best-In-Class engineering practices. Working side-by-side with some of the brightest minds and most innovative people in the industry, you will be given an opportunity to work on a team where your contributions matter.
The candidate must have a background in developing data center solutions for tier one providers. The role centers on understanding requirements and associated architecture specifications for next-generation platform architecture for data center infrastructure. This entails understanding customer requirements - meeting with datacenter primary customers to synthesize the needs for compute, memory, network, storage and acceleration resources, as well as requirements such as security, power efficiency, scalability, reliability, performance, and TCO, etc. The role requires understanding, maturing, and utilizing new technologies, novel power delivery, packages and SoC interconnect technologies, memory media and memory tiering architectures, smart NIC capabilities, and the PCIe/CXL roadmap.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with tier 1 data center companies to determine requirements for next generation computer hardware platform requirements including compute, memory, network, storage and acceleration capabilities.
- Propose, architect, and specify novel high-value technology that enable new datacenter capabilities that improve controllability, reliability, power efficiency, security, TCO and performance. Work within and across BUs to implement the component level changes in each component implicated within the portfolio.
- Understand emerging technologies such as power delivery mechanisms, package and SoC interconnect technologies, memory media and memory tiering architectures, smart NIC capabilities and the PCIe/CXL roadmap and collaborate with technology developers and system partners to intercept next generation computer hardware platforms.
- Understand complex cross-platform systems that implement the latest datacenter feature sets in security, power management, hardware partitioning, telemetry, reliability, and serviceability, and the implications on next generation platform architecture.
- Identify next generation platform architecture requirements used to influence the design evolution of SoCs, NIC, accelerators (in SoC package or on PCIe), memory controllers, security processors, remote memory systems, rack management ASICs, etc.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- BS degree or higher in Computer Engineering or related degree.
- A minimum of 15+ years of relevant work experience.
- Expertise in the microarchitectures of datacenter compute platforms, including IO/PCIe/CXL, NICs, memory and storage technologies.
- Experience with tier 1 data center designs and / or tier 1 data center system providers.
- Excellent analytical, communication (written and verbal), and documentation skills.
- Excellent technical leadership and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will collaborate closely across Microchip to specify hardware, firmware for the purpose of developing new or leveraged components for placement within server platforms. The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience working across teams with diverse products and business interests.
- Ability to communicate effectively and succinctly to upper management.
- Experience with security requirements of server platforms and their components.
- Industry contributions and/or participation in one or more technology forums or consortiums relevant to Tier 1 datacenters.
