Job Description

The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for taking complex, technical information and translating it into an easily understandable format, based on Arbella guidelines. They will work closely with members of IT Infrastructure to drive the strategic goal to document policies and procedures, interpret network drawings, reports, and other data to produce technical documentation and user guides as needed.

The Senior Technical Writer will spearhead training new employees on the logistics and importance of knowledge capture and will be responsible for maintaining the knowledge base and recommending the required governance to support it. The scope of responsibilities includes researching and identifying industry best practices to be implemented at Arbella.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in both working in technical environments, writing, and editing technical documents, and establishing governance frameworks to ensure data integrity. Additionally, they have experience publishing digital content and can leverage customer data and feedback to develop targeted content for the self-service portal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development of new engaging content for the ITSC portal.
  • Writes and edits other writer's technical documents/articles according to standard specifications.
  • Offer regular feedback to writers to help them improve their work and efficiency.
  • Commit to quality assurance monitoring to check for compliance or the need to modify.
  • Develop technical document standards and templates for IT.
  • Keep consistent copy standards and style.
  • Understand the subtleties and challenges of positioning of copy for a variety of audiences.
  • Research existing data to maximize use of previously developed text and/or illustrations.
  • Drafts materials to ensure text and illustrations are completed and coordinated per final product requirements.
  • Documents and archives technical data over long periods in an efficient, established method to aid in future related projects.
  • Communicates status of work and any requirements for additional information to management.
  • Completes assigned tasks according to established deadlines, customer specifications, and company policies and procedures.
  • Follows all established compliance procedures and reports violations to appropriate personnel; may make recommendations about how to improve procedures.
  • Helps communicate project status and deadlines with customer and other internal and external personnel.
  • Demonstrates strong writing skills, which reflect Arbella's brand voice.
  • Partner with IT teams to create and manage efforts to support their initiatives.
  • Demonstrates the ability to spearhead meetings and strategize with other employees and outside vendors through the life of a project.

Key Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant technical role.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in technical writing or editing
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or English.
  • Excellent understanding of the English language, documentation guidelines, and documentation formats.
  • Ability to quickly grasp technical information.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access,

    Microsoft PowerPoint, and SharePoint is required.

  • Intermediate level of proficiency with desktop publishing tools including Adobe is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing projects with finite resources.
  • Ability to operate comfortably and effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with aggressive timelines; highly organized with the ability to prioritize demand for self in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with excellent critical thinking, communication, problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to articulate complex issues in a simple, compelling way, in both oral and written form to influence key stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze, research, problem solving and document across applications.
  • Can confidently work face to face with employees at all levels including the Executive Team.
