*Due to the acquisition of Hostess Brands, we have several opportunities for new team members in our Sweet Baked Snacks team which will be permanently located in Orrville, Ohio! *

Your Opportunity as the Senior Technologist, Process -Sweet Baked Snacks Research & Development Team

In this role you will be responsible for: 1) developing, optimizing, and implementing proprietary process technologies and equipment for our innovation roadmap; 2) driving process development for innovation from concept through commercialization, resulting in the launch of new sweet baked snacks; 3) improving existing process, value engineering, and technology development to enable new product development or cost improvement. You must be comfortable leading functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk and/or complexity

Sr. Process Technologists plan and execute a broad range of technical tasks and must be able to work effectively independently or within a team. Your work is typically “hands on” in a lab, in a plant or pilot plant, at a critical site, on a computer, or with consumers for all Sweet Baked Snacks.

Location: Corporate Offices in Orrville, Ohio

Work Arrangements: Ability to travel up to 30% on an ongoing basis (travel frequency dependent on projects and product launch pipeline). Due to the transition of the team from Lenexa, Kansas to Orrville, OH travel may be higher in the first 6 months (Up to 50% at times).

In this role you will:

  • Support/Lead the development, scale-up, and commercialization of Innovation, Renovation & Value Engineering initiatives. 
  • Lead commissioning and support Operations with qualification of new product & process technologies, as well as improving existing process technologies.
  • Apply fundamental engineering principles – mass & energy balances, heat transfer, designed experimentation & data analyses, process flow diagrams etc for appropriate decision making and documentation for knowledge capture.
  • Interface with equipment suppliers, service providers, manufacturing facilities and relevant business functions, including marketing and supply chain, to achieve goals.
  • Learn to assess legal and environmental aspects, and patent opportunities for new processes/technologies.  May contribute data to patent applications
  • Collect and analyze data from suppliers, plant operations, customers, and consumers.
  • Design and execute experiments at both supplier sites and in plant operations.
  • Validate improvements/corrective actions that will deliver the desired benefits
  • Perform additional R&D duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience in process development or operations technical support within CPG required (food/beverage preferred)
  • Experience in food processing is preferred
  • Can plan and execute designed experiments (DOE) and generate relevant and process data to identify and mitigate process development and scale up risks. Can communicate results to cross functional team.
  • Strong communication, both oral and written. Can prepare with presentations on projects with some guidance.
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, and creativity skills
  • Comfortable working in multifunctional teams
  • Exposure to project management
  • Comfortable in ambiguous situations
  • Confident and proactive person open to constant learning
  • Can work with personal and food safety in mind
  • Comfortable sharing experience and learnings with others
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
