Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Test Hardware Design Engineer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for independently designing and developing complex test hardware to facilitate factory testing of Garmin products in a team-oriented environment.

Essential Functions

  • Work under general direction to develop new/complex test hardware for new products
  • Collaborate with design, software, and test software engineers to define test requirements/procedures that will be used to confirm that newly produced Garmin products meet minimum performance standards and may work with Design Engineers and Embedded SW Engineers to validate prototype hardware
  • Contribute to advanced technical research of fundamental test problems and implement test solutions that appropriately balance robustness, complexity, and maintainability
  • Design complex test circuits, develop and document test hardware in accordance with Garmin`s hardware development methodology and standards in order to test the performance and functionality of newly developed products.
  • Perform complex schematic design and PCB layout.
  • Complete complex troubleshooting and debugging of electronic test circuits and/or systems.
  • Provide technical input to product development plans and concept documents
  • Work with design engineering and test equipment manufactures to select test equipment
  • Support Hardware Engineering teams on ways to improve test efficiency/consistency
  • Perform as a technical leader who guides planning and technical direction of projects
  • Make substantial contributions to determining feasibility of project goals/objectives
  • Support production associates in introducing new test hardware/equipment to production
  • Perform maintenance and support activities for test hardware already in use in accordance with Garmin`s hardware change management process
  • Contribute to design reviews across multiple product types
  • Collaborate with factory, test software engineers, and design engineers to fix factory test hardware problems quickly and effectively
  • Mentor junior team members on all aspects of test practices and processes

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Computer Engineering (BSCE), AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must demonstrate advanced use and knowledge of engineering tools and the ability to complete well defined complex tasks
  • Proven ability to learn and apply knowledge of test equipment and software tools for electronics design, testing, and documentation
  • Demonstraed an ability to use general and complex EE troubleshooting tools (ex. oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, etc.)
  • Demonstrated mastery of relevant product testing tools and methodologies (ex. configuration management systems, simulators, test management hardware, and test equipment)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply design and test standards and proceduresAble to develop complex analog, digital, and/or RF test designs designs that may be derived largely from existing products that may be either analog, digital, or RFincluding simulations, schematics, PCB layouts, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality, and must be able to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Deomonstrated an ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
  • Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Must possess other education and/or experiences as required for the specific projects or products he/she will develop
