Senior Training and Development Specialist (OE/DEIA)

Greenleaf Integrative (www.greenleafintegrative.com) provides high-quality training and support services to humanitarian and development organizations to enhance the resiliency and performance of professionals working in demanding/overseas environments. 

The position is a member of the Training Unit (TU) with staff based in Washington, DC, and around the world. The position will assist in the leadership of a multidisciplinary team of training professionals who help build capacity in staff who facilitate and or create visually compelling, interactive, performance-based courses that drive positive learner outcomes through role-specific content, experiential learning activities, and cognitive learner exercises. This role will help to oversee coordination with team members, clients, and various stakeholders, and lead the organizational effectiveness (OE) initiatives. Training topics include, but are not limited to the following subjects: new employee orientation, technical sectors (e.g. shelters and settlements, food assistance, economic recovery), grants management, safety and security overseas, and operational stress mitigation. The successful candidate will have exceptional emotional intelligence, communication skills, and conflict management skills.

  • This hybrid position allows for telework but requires an in-office commitment on a weekly basis.

Job Duties

Training/Organizational Effectiveness (T/OE)

  • Direct support for the T/OE Team Lead
  • Provide key content support to capacity-building efforts within the TU, as directed by the T/OE Team Lead
  • Provide support to the T/OE Team Lead and multidisciplinary training professionals who apply training expertise to the design, development, and implementation of training products
  • Support the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) and Trauma Informed design initiatives within the TU
  • Support the effort of recognizing, creating, and implementing plans to promote diversity and inclusion at the individual, team, and organizational levels
  • Support DEIA training initiatives in support of course design, development, implementation, and evaluatio
  • Recommend and assist in the development of a curriculum that uses adult learning principles for various delivery options
  • Train and mentor junior training staff in all aspects of training and development
  • Facilitate training to build capacity on TU 
  • Position may require occasional local and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned 

Project Management 

  • Support the development, maintenance, and implementation of project management methodologies, standards, and tools in support of course design, development, and rollout
  • Co-leads project meetings and prepares regular reports to communicate the status of projects to stakeholders within and beyond the project team 
  • Escalates and works to resolve issues that serve as roadblocks and/or place project objectives at risk
  • Identifies and provides visibility into trade-offs between options, while identifying recommended approaches 
  • Performs project close-out steps to include identifying lessons learned/best practices to inform the success of future projects. Applies continuous improvement methodologies throughout the project management lifecycle. 
  • Collaborate with and support other team members
  • Train and mentor Trainers and Training & Development Specialists 
  • Position may require occasional local and international travel

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum years of relevant experience (varies by highest degree):
    • Computer technology, training development, or instructional systems design, education, training, instructional design and development, organizational development, or relevant field
      • 15-yrs experience with a bachelor’s degree OR
      • 12-yrs experience with a master’s degree 
      • 8-yrs t experience with a PhD 
  • 5-7 years of direct experience in a similar role
  • US Citizenship 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an interim and final secret security clearance

Required Experience: 

  • Senior-level experience working in the Training and Development field
  • Experience facilitating training on Organizational Effectiveness, DEIA, EEO, Psychological Safety, and relevant topics.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems used for adult learning education
  • Senior-level experience working with universal design for learning principles
  • Demonstrated experience leading Organizational Effectiveness efforts
  • Proven expertise in the design and development of training products and events
  • Demonstrated expertise contributing to needs assessment and measurement of the effectiveness of training 
  • Co-designing and facilitating instructor-led training that engages participants in active learning experiences 
  • Close collaboration with instructional designers, and SMEs, including providing coaching and feedback
  • Training subject matter expert, including recommendations on best practices for training design and development
