Senior Travel Editor

Forbes Vetted is seeking an experienced editor to own travel coverage for our growing commerce editorial team. This role will be responsible for overseeing and launching a travel section for Forbes Vetted, which will include city guides, roundups, travel news, hotel reviews, trip deals, as well as coverage of cruising, high-end tours, vacation rentals, travel gear, and more. You will work closely with the executive editor to establish the voice and taste level of this section, while collaborating with the content strategy team to optimize content. The senior travel editor reports to the Forbes Vetted executive editor. 

This is a remote role with an option to commute to the Jersey City Forbes office if desired

Responsibilities:

• Maintaining full ownership of travel coverage
• Planning the edit calendar for your section, with guidance from the executive editor and strategy editor
• Hiring and managing a small team of staff writers and editors 
• Assigning and editing travel content, as well as overseeing (and top-editing) content assigned by your direct reports
• Participating in sales event coverage, including potential shifts over holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Labor Day and Black Friday/Cyber Monday
• Some writing as time allows
• Assisting with social content creation for your section
• Tracking content performance against team and individual goals
• Working with the business development team to help establish affiliate partnerships in the travel space from the ground up 

The ideal candidate: 

• Is an expert in all things travel with 5-7+ years of experience covering travel content for a media brand
• Is an excellent manager with a proven track record of success leading a (remote) team
• Has impeccable writing, editing and reporting skills as well as a network of experienced travel writers as well as PR contacts 
• Has a strong understanding of SEO as well as affiliate / commerce content strategy experience 
• Is user-focused and understands editorial independence, but can deftly balance this with the needs of the business 
• Is eager to innovate and experiment editorially to help grow the Forbes Vetted audience

The annual base salary range for this role is $95,000 - $105,000
