Carta is looking for an experienced UI/Visual Designer who is passionate about Design Systems, enjoys solving complex challenges, and can work alongside an exceptional design team creating and shipping innovative digital product experiences across the company. You will help imagine the future look and feel of Carta products. You will obsess about pixels, typography, layout and grids as you co-develop a strategy for evolving our existing Design System. Our ideal candidate is a simplifier, who can spot the beauty in great design that scales, enjoys working cross-functionally, and can effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
As a Senior UI Designer, you will help define and set standards for a modular design language, as part of the Design System, to achieve consistency for the Carta products at scale.Â
Additionally, you will:
- Co-develop and define the creative vision for the evolution of Carta’s Design System, inkÂ
- Update, maintain, and evolve visual design guidelines for ink
- Solve for data visualization and product functionality through design, typography, color, and icons
- Use your strong storytelling skills to share your vision and strategy and receive feedback from stakeholders across product, design, engineering, and design technology
- Define design principles for the new design language to share across the design org
- Embrace constraints to find elegant solutions that solve across a complex set of products
- Obsessively refine form and table UI, interaction, and patterns, crucial for a financial platform
- Work with product design and design technologists to identify which components and patterns are most in need and prioritize them accordingly
- Help other product designers identify when elements of their work should become a new, reusable component of our larger system or remain local and specific to their use cases
- Partner with design technologists and engineers to develop, test, and deliver new components and patterns
- Pair with product design team members to review proposed components and patterns, receive feedback, and iterate
- 4+ years experience as a UI / Visual Designer, including experience building and evolving an effective design system
- Strong visual design fundamentals with enterprise software experience
- Exceptional interaction and visual design skills, with expert command of visual hierarchy, layout, typography, color theory, and brand systems
- Skilled in explaining your work, process and design decisions, while also being relentless about asking for feedbackÂ
- Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with diverse teams in a dynamic, rapid growth environment.
- Highly detail-oriented, down to the very last pixel
- Systems thinker
- Versed in working with a highly technical team
- You’re comfortable working autonomously and proactively, while also knowing when to involve others in to move things forward quickly
- An online portfolio showcasing previous work that demonstrates expert understanding of the formal elements of design, which include typography, layout, proportion, and balance
- Motion design experience
- Experience with data visualizations, infographics, graphic designÂ
- Familiarity with finance
Carta’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, exceptional benefits, and, for applicable roles, commissions plans. Our minimum cash compensation (salary + commission if applicable) range for this role is:
- Â $144,500 - $170,000Â in New York, New York
- Â $144,500 - $170,000 in San Francisco, California
- Â $130,050 - $153,000 in Seattle, Washington
Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography, candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.
