Job Description

As a UI/UX designer for a customer-facing web and mobile application developed in a low-code environment, your primary focus is creating a captivating and user-centric experience beyond just the interface. While designing visually appealing interfaces is important, your role carries even greater significance in ensuring that the overall user experience (UX) is seamless, intuitive, and meets our customers' expectations. By focusing on user experience over interface design, you will play a vital role in crafting an application that engages our users and fosters long-term adoption.

Responsibilities:

  • Wireframing and Prototyping: Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and mockups to visualize and communicate design ideas. Iterate on these designs based on feedback and user testing.
  • UX Design: Design the user experience flow in collaboration with our experience team. Optimize navigation, information architecture, and interactions to enhance usability and accessibility.
  • UI Design: Develop visually appealing and intuitive user interfaces that balance the constraints of the Appian low-code environment and customer style guidelines. Create designs for a web and mobile application on Windows, Android, and Apple iOS, considering factors such as layout, typography, color schemes, and visual hierarchy.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including the customer product owner, customer UI/UX designers, end-user SMEs, business analysts, QA Testers, developers, and other partner stakeholders to understand requirements, align design goals, and ensure the successful implementation of UI/UX solution as a product ready for resell.
  • Usability Testing: Conduct usability testing sessions to gather feedback on the application's usability and identify areas for improvement. Analyze user feedback and iterate on designs to enhance the overall user experience.
  • Design Documentation: Create design documentation, including style guides, design patterns, and UI specifications, to ensure consistency across different platforms and devices.
  • Industry Trends: Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in UI/UX design, specifically related to potential competitors ahead of the product release to the market. Apply this knowledge to drive innovation and improve the application's design and user experience.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in UU/UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field. Relevant certifications or equivalent work experience will also be considered.

  • A strong portfolio showcasing your UI/UX design work, including wireframes, prototypes, and final designs.
  • Proven experience as a UI/UX designer, preferably with a focus on customer-facing web and mobile applications.
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, usability, and interaction design.
  • Knowledge of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on UI/UX design.
  • Familiarity with responsive design and mobile-first approaches.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams.

In addition to the qualifications mentioned in the job description, Miro and Azure DevOps proficiency is valued for the role:

Miro: Miro is an online collaborative whiteboarding platform that can facilitate brainstorming, wireframing, and visual collaboration.

  • Create and share interactive wireframes, user flows, and other visual design artifacts.
  • Collaborate with team members in real-time, enabling seamless remote collaboration.
  • Conduct design workshops, gather feedback, and iterate on designs within Miro.
  • Use Miro's features, such as sticky notes, shapes, and templates, to effectively organize and present design ideas.

Azure DevOps: Azure DevOps is a comprehensive set of development tools and services that can streamline project management, version control, and deployment processes.

  • Collaborate with development teams, track design-related tasks, and manage design sprints using Azure Boards.
  • Integrate design assets, such as prototypes and design specifications, with Azure User Stories.
  • Coordinate with Scrum Master on queuing design changes and feature implementation, ensuring a smooth handover between design and development phases.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and track user feedback using Azure DevOps tools like Azure Test Plans.

While proficiency in Miro and Azure DevOps is not always explicitly required in UI/UX designer job descriptions, having experience with these tools can be beneficial and differentiate you as a candidate. It demonstrates your ability to start work quickly in our collaborative environment, manage design processes efficiently, and integrate with development workflows.
