Why this Role?

The Applied Endpoints team owns and builds production applications that enable customers to get the best experiences from Cohere’s models. This includes building open-source software (OSS), integrations, frontend, and backend services on top of Cohere’s models and APIs.

Please Note: We have offices in Toronto, San Francisco, New York, and London. We embrace a remote-friendly environment, and as part of this approach, we strategically distribute teams based on interests, expertise, and time zones to promote collaboration and flexibility. The Applied Endpoints team is concentrated in the EST and BST time zones.

As a Senior/Staff Backend Engineer on this team, you will:

• Work with a small but ambitious team of engineers, designers, and product managers.
• Ship delightful experiences for our user-facing products, meticulously crafting code for browsers and server code.
• Own and build robust services-oriented web experiences and REST APIs; our backend stack includes Python.
• Keep up with the cutting edge and adopt new technologies to improve performance and reliability.

You may be a good fit if:

• You have previous experience in Python or other languages for developing backend services.
• You’ve shipped fast and snappy backend services or web apps loved by many users.
• You care about bringing value to our users—it’s not just about chasing the latest tech stack. You understand the balance between craft and speed.
• You have an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy working at a growing company.
• You get energized by the opportunity to make a big impact in a small team.
• You love mentoring developers of all levels and have excellent communication skills to provide effective feedback.
• You have conducted thoughtful and collaborative technical interviews for engineers in partnership with Talent and Engineering teams.
• You have crafted a project proposal, socialized it across teams, and built buy-in to execute it from start to finish.
