Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an experienced SEO editor based in the Pacific time zone to bolster efforts to reach audiences through search and growth platforms. This editor will be responsible for optimizing stories and identifying content opportunities across a range of topics to extend the reach of our journalism.

This editor must obsess over news and move quickly to turn insights from trends and traffic patterns into tactics to reach audiences. The ideal candidate will be able to pivot quickly to seize opportunities around breaking news and live moments and step back to perform analysis, think strategically beyond the news cycle and make recommendations that support our mission and audience-growth goals.

Responsibilities

• Pitch story ideas and coverage areas to reach new and existing audiences and collaborate with editors and reporters to ensure success.
• Optimize daily content and implement strategies based on technical audits of the website.
• Train editors and reporters on optimization best practices and directly partner to guide content strategy.
• Provide competitive analysis on search performance to newsroom stakeholders.
• Work with partners to identify and improve tools to facilitate the creation of search-first content.

This remote position is based on the U.S. West Coast and might require night and weekend work.
