Department Overview

The Service Transition team is an integral part of Centralized Managed Services Operations (CMSO), supporting customers and services across the breadth of MSI. The Service Transition team’s mission is to manage the global intake process with a focus on prioritizing projects and initiatives, while establishing clear goals and driving adherence to agreed completion dates. The team is designed to ensure operational readiness for new or enhanced services. The Transition Planning and Support Team is responsible for the registration and management of all CMSO projects. Projects originate from numerous sources, including Global Offer Management, Software Enterprise, Cyber-Security, unique customer requirements, mergers and acquisitions, and CMSO initiatives for process and tool improvement. The Service Transition Team is made up of Transition Planning and Support, which represents the Project Management function, plus Service Readiness, Customer Onboarding, Configuration Management, Change Management, Knowledge Management, Service Delivery Enablement, and the Transformation Management Office.
Job Description

The Service Transition Project Manager is responsible for:

  • The coordination, planning, scheduling and control over assigned projects through the entire project life cycle. 

  • Responsible for managing multiple CMSO projects, varying in size and complexity, and adhering to a committed schedule with milestones. 

  • Define and develop a detailed project plan through requirements gathering and scope definition.

  • Demonstrate best practices for developing schedules, with the ability to identify and manage the critical path.

  • Able to follow BOTH a waterfall methodology and Agile project plan, occasionally balancing between the two strategies.

  • Responsible for working with resource managers and using the department's project management tool to track and report on resource utilization and project costs.

  • Identify resource constraints or deficiencies and lobby for appropriate support and/or subject matter expertise. 

  • Act as the point of contact for stakeholders and the project team, communicating project status, reporting critical project challenges, and escalating issues as warranted.

  • Monitor project execution to ensure all obligations are met, and drive projects to completion as per schedule and scope commitments.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve conflicts in opinions and/or agendas, and ensure alignment to the project objectives.

  • Quickly identify and communicate any changes to scope or expectations, following the Change Request process to determine impact to the resource plan and schedule. 

  • Identify and track risks and issues along with their potential impact, while driving mitigation strategies and corrective actions.

  • Drive the project team to identify dependencies, evaluate options, and take appropriate actions to align and/or exploit efficiencies.

  • Ability to analyze, make recommendations, and implement process improvements.

  • Effectively coordinate the project close-out and conduct lessons learned, while documenting and storing all assets in the project repository.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal Project Management training required with proof of coursework completion

  • Demonstrated success in leading technical or IT related projects

  • Experience with Waterfall, Agile, and hybrid methodologies

  • Experience and competency with office tool suites (e.g. MS Office, Google Suite)

  • Experience with a project management tool (e.g. MS Project, Smartsheet, Planview, etc.)

  • Leadership capability with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence without authority

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Organized and process oriented mindset with team building experience

  • PMP Certification (desired)

  • Agile/Scrum Certification (desired)

  • ITIL certification or foundational knowledge (desired)

Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field along with 3+ years of experience in a Project Management role

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
