Highnote was founded in 2020 by former executives from Braintree, PayPal, Lending Club, and Visa with the goal of simplifying payments for emerging enterprises with an all-in-one card issuance and full-stack acquiring platform. In other words, Highnote connects merchants and businesses to the most advanced virtual payments platform - the industry’s first built-for-purpose unified solution for virtual card issuing - extensible through developer friendly open APIs capable of handling the most complex payment processing business flows. Highnote is headquartered in San Francisco and currently has remote team members in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and New York City. The team is currently 95+ people and growing!

Job Description

Highnote connects merchants and businesses to the most advanced virtual payments platform, and we are just getting started. Performance, availability, and scalability will be key differentiators for our platform. As a site reliability engineer on the infrastructure team, you will play an important role in ensuring the platform availability of our platform. You will have the opportunity to work across the organization and take our platform to the next level.

What you’ll be doing
  • Ensure platform availability and performance by working closely with infrastructure and product engineering teams
  • Partner with service owners to establish SLOs for the critical services
  • Build and improve the observability platform for service owners to operate their services efficiently and effectively
  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis of availability and performance issues and provide corrective actions when possible
  • Evaluate, design, and develop automated performance frameworks
  • Develop performance and load testing benchmarks
  • Integrate performance and load testing into our CI/CD
  • Collaborate with other teams across the engineering to share knowledge, tools, and best practices on performance engineering and scalability topics
  • Contribute to infrastructure projects
What we are looking for:
  • Proven ability in SRE/DevOps with a track record of ensuring platform availability.  
  • Ability to research tools, implement prototypes, and deliver solutions quickly
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced and cross-functional environment
  • Excellent communication and documentation skill
  • 2+ years of enterprise-level performance engineering experience
  • Experience with one or more scripting/programming languages (Java/Python)
  • Experience with cloud platforms, such as GCP, AWS or similar
  • Experience with APIs
Bonus Skills:
  • Experience with SpringBoot, Kubernetes, and Istio
  • Experience with Spanner performance
