SUMMARY

At First United Bank, we're passionate about building software that solves problems. We count on our site reliability engineers (SREs) to empower users with a rich feature set, high availability, and stellar performance level to pursue their missions. As we expand our software portfolio, we're seeking an experienced SRE to deliver insights from various data sets in real time. Specifically, we're searching for someone who has fresh ideas and a unique viewpoint, and who enjoys collaborating with a cross-functional team to develop real-world solutions and positive user experiences for every interaction.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

• Run the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health
• Build software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications
• Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions
• Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating for continual improvement
• Provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple large-scale distributed software applications
• Gather and analyze metrics from operating systems as well as applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding
• Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures
• Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning
• Create sustainable systems and services through automation
• Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service-level objectives

• Assist all company employees and customers in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner
• Adhere to company security practices according to policy and adopted security framework
• Uphold system and application hardening procedures
• Comply with all banking regulations and legal statutes
• Document records accurately
• Adherence to all First United Policies and Procedures
• Complete all required compliance exams on an annual basis
• Perform other duties as assigned

EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATIONS

Required Education and Work Experience

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related discipline
• 3 to 5 years of experience as a software engineer or systems engineer.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

• Technical Understanding of Cloud and on-prem computing (Azure/AWS, Private, Hybrid)

• Ability to program (structured and OOP) using one or more high-level languages, such as Python, Java, Golang, C/C++, Ruby, and JavaScript
• Experience operating and administering the Linux operating system, running workloads as containers and working with Kubernetes in a production environment
• Familiarity with observability tooling such as DataDog, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, etc
• Experience working with development teams to define targeted Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs)
• Proactive approach to identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement
• Microsoft Office Suite and Visio proficiency
• People skills requisite to work with business units, system engineers, & management
• Good verbal communication and writing skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage projects
