Site Reliability Engineer I

Responsibilities

1. Ensures SRE activities are completed on time and with high quality.

2. Acts as a technical subject matter using a combination of insights into technology and ongoing business needs to make impactful system architecture and design decisions.

3. Assists with the definition and execution on system and software standards to achieve effective and efficient systems management at scale.

4. Establishes, Manages, and Monitors Service Level Objectives and Service Level Agreements for the platforms supported.

5. Ensures quality of existing and new system implementations, guiding adjustments where necessary to generate high quality product.

6. Works with vendors and service providers to ensure desired service levels are maintained or exceeded.

7. Stay abreast of industry trends and advances in supported technologies that would add business value, making recommendations to senior management where applicable.

8. Designs, coordinates and oversees reliability testing procedures to verify the reliability of systems, networks and applications, and manages the remediation of identified risks. 9. Assists in the design of and participates in disaster recovery planning, testing, and response with a focus on system recoverability.

10. Identifies and automates high value /high frequency tasks using a software engineering mindset to improve customer response and satisfaction

11. Ensure platform is available and ready to meet the needs of the product team.

12. Executing to a roadmap agreed upon with their stakeholders

13. Setting up Role Based Access Controls to maintain proper controls and separation of duties for systems under their control.

14. Building automation to help developers self-service to enable product delivery with quality.

15. Monitoring the Platform and Tools in the DevOps Toolchain.

16. Addressing Capacity concerns and Availability issues of the Platform and Tool.

17. Individual must be proactive vs. reactive, actively seeking issues and coding solutions prior to user/business impact, SRE's are 3rd level support.

Education and Experience

1. Good understanding of Observability (Metrics, logging, tracing), Service Mesh and have experience in production environments.

2. Strong coding background, with experience in programmatically automating and managing system reliability.

3. Good understanding of RedHat's OpenShift platform. (Or Kubernetes)

4. Good understanding of provisioning Cloud Infrastructure with Terraform

5. Experience with Microsoft Azure

6. General Administrative knowledge in operating systems, network systems and LAN/WAN environments.

7. Knowledge of DevOps principles

8. Experience using enterprise monitoring and logging solutions such as Splunk, EFK, Dynatrace, Open Telemetry, etc.

9. Experience with Java virtual machines, Kubernetes, Containers, Microservices, Middleware, Application Performance Monitoring, Logging.

10. Knowledge of Cloud native technology stack like Kubernetes/OpenShift platform (PaaS), Portworx, Github Actions, ArgoCD, and other related tools.

11. Expertise in proactive management of production systems.

12. Rotating on call duties and supporting code releases.

13. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with technical and non-technical contacts.

14. Effective organization and presentation abilities to present ideas and recommendations to senior management and executive-level individuals.

15. Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.

16. Experience with and/or solid understanding of Agile methodologies and tools.

Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a Bachelors degree and 2-6 years related experience or equivelent combination.
