Your Role:
The Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning for multiple systems within the insurance applications production environments. They create a bridge between development and operations by applying a software engineering mindset to system administration topics and splitting their time between operations/on-call duties and developing system monitors, automation, and software that help increase site reliability and performance. They collaborate closely with product developers to ensure that the designed solution responds to non-functional requirements such as availability, performance, security, and maintainability. They also work with release engineers to ensure that the software delivery pipeline is as efficient as possible.
Your work: (Essential responsibilities)
- Performs production deployments with little oversight.
- Administer production application containers.
- Supports core batch processes and ETL integrations across numerous internal & external systems.
- Support various IT vendors and measure their performance and develop ops metrics by setting the threshold for critical application services using various tools like Power BI, New Relic, Splunk, Quantum Metrics, etc.
- Performs high-level triage of complex technical production incidents and performance issues.
- Creating and Evaluating Requests for Change (RFCs), the available resources, impact of change, and organizational readiness.
- Designs & Develops monitoring, application log analysis, automated alerts, Key Risk Indicator dashboards, system health reports and automated system recovery.
- Develops pre-emptive monitoring, application log analysis, automated alerts, Key Risk Indicator dashboards, system health reports and automated system recovery.
- Monitors applications and develops moderately complex queries and reports/dashboards to proactively identify issues impacting application performance & stability with little to no oversight.
- Develops automation in the support of deployment and self-healing capabilities.
- Participates in rotational on-call support for critical applications. May be called upon to manage incident response for priority #1 & #2 incidents
- Provides subject matter expertise to stakeholders (Business and IT) and reviews documentation of other analysts for completeness.
- Participates in Agile ceremonies in representation of technical dept artifacts. Assists with Product Ownership & Prioritization of tech backlogs.
- Participates in Disaster Recovery & Cyber Security exercise at the enterprise level.
- Participates in the remediation of critical vulnerabilities and security findings.
- Provision & reviews artifacts in support of internal and external audits.
What would make us excited about you?
- 8 + years system documentation experience and/or technical writing
- Bachelor's degree in related area (computer science, information systems or other related field) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of deployment automation tools - Jenkins, Chef, Ansible, Bamboo, etc.
- Experience in APM tools, preferably Quantum Metrics, NewRelic and Splunk is required. AWS Cloud Watch experience is desired.
- Knowledge of collaboration tools - Confluence, Jira, etc.
- Leadership skills including conviction and determination in resolving technical problems are required.
- General understanding of cloud-based technologies, cloud architecture, and cloud offerings.
- Proficiency with relational database queries, preferably Oracle PL/SQL language is required.
- Knowledge of advanced ITIL framework processes and best practices is required.
- Broad knowledge of enterprise-class infrastructure platforms and the technology to support them is strongly desired. (i.e. Cisco Network, Avaya VoIP, Call center & CTI solutions, Windows Servers, Linux Servers, Storage, etc.).
- Familiarity with any of the following insurance applications is Guidewire, EIS Group PolicyCore and BillingCore, Kofax, Fastlane, Smartcomm.
- Scripting and automation exposure and willingness to learn batch admin and engineering processes.
- Ability to create non-functional requirements and translate business requirements into non-functional requirements.
- Solid understanding of development, quality assurance and integration methodologies.
- Ability to trace given transactions through a complex system and document how systems and overlapping processes interact.
- Knowledge of deployment automation tools - Jenkins, Chef, Ansible, Bamboo, etc.

The national average salary range for this position is $121,050- $134,500 However, we have a location-based compensation structure. Our salary ranges vary and are calculated based on county of residence. The full [salary range] [hourly rate range] for this position across all the states we hire in is $108,900-$161,600. This role also includes an opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus, through our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), of up to 10% of eligible pay.
