Job Description
The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Principal is an experienced, proven technical engineer, with focus on resiliency and reliability pertaining to our designs, architecture, performance, detective controls, modernization, and our people. The SRE Principal possesses skills for domain breadth and depth with thought leadership and strategic influence to deliver a resounding impact through the technology team.
Specific responsibilities of the SRE role include:
- Assemble the resiliency story and roadmap including current state, impact, opportunities, value, timing and owner. Ensure there is a documented reason why some suggestions may not be implemented timely with data points.
- Gather through TPO org and Jira data points, all the resiliency items completed, including a description of the positive impact and cost avoidance.
- Connect with technology leaders, emphasizing the critical concerns observed with resiliency.
- Leverage network to observe, learn, share outcomes, and provide guidance on work streams and enterprise 'global' efforts.
- Shadows triage calls and takes command when the tech lead and support team are unable to retain traction towards mitigation or resolution.
- Assemble scoring model for resiliency, by product or capability, considering frequency, impacts and time to mitigate. Partner with infrastructure including their risk matrix.
- Assess existing ecosystems, including infrastructure and software, with our technology team leads and identify design and architecture patterns carrying exposure, i.e single points of failure, objects performing more than one purpose, communications requiring more than two end points, non-critical dependencies within the critical path, error codes and messages that surface as a pattern without a well understood reason, etc.
- Provide resourceful feedback and design pattern options with the technology team leads and gain consensus on desired solutions.
- Insightfully drive the team towards exercises such as forced test outages, stress testing orchestrated transactions, and leveraging tools and techniques to solve graceful degradation when a service or capability outage does occur.
- Speak to the resiliency need, impact and actions with cross-functional and senior leaders.
- Interface with TPO or Eng Lead to ensure desired solutions are included on backlog for appropriate prioritization and scheduling. This role is not responsible for the backlog management and funding submissions.
- Contribute to team design reviews on new capabilities, with the same mindset and actions as above.
- Contribute to quality engineering approaches, with the same mindset and actions as above.
- Publish on-going confluence with a collection of team learnings and what actions were completed to resolve, including posting applicable design patterns.
- Publish on-going best practices and patterns with synthetic monitoring, educating our teams.
- Partner with software engineering directors to establish KPIs and product specific goals.
- Identify opportunities to simplify the ecosystem via sunset of unreliable services and products, including how to modernize with resiliency.
- Partner with enterprise resiliency leads AND the principal community to share resiliency concerns, impactful outcomes and influence consistency.
- Educates teams involved to understand and accept the concerns and proposals. Engage Principal associated with the team.
- Coaches individual team members to ensure the purpose and outcomes are understood.
- Encourage teams and explore ML opportunities to help predict when an event is about to occur.
- Empowered representation of our technology teams at the managed incident daily briefing.
Qualifications
- Experience in architecture, design, developing systems and influencing teams with cultural aspirations.
- Experience in technical leadership and setting technical direction for engineering projects.
- Experience in an IT operating and/or support role.
- Understanding of enterprise workloads
- Ability to create a compelling vision for the future, communicate clearly, and have a collaborative leadership approach.
- Understands end to end business transactions or customer journey
- Ability to be entrepreneurial and strategic.
- Embrace automation and seek to automate when feasible, familiar with automation concepts and methods

- Ability to lead issue resolution activities and calls, driver of Enterprise Operations Command Center (EOCC) conversations when domain is affected
- Ability to decompose complicated work into its relevant pieces and feed information into technical product and planning for incorporation into Epics, Features
- Engineering mindset with intellectual curiosity
- Industry knowledge around DevOps and SRE, and associated industry measures/metrics
If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 121,600 - 202,600 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
