Role: Site Safety Manager, Life Sciences  

Reports to: Senior Regional Safety Manager 

Location: NY Tri-State (On-Site in Summit, NJ)  

Who You Are 
The Site Safety Manager is responsible for managing the safety and risk associated with construction projects and company operations. The Safety Manager will proactively implement, and direct Unispace’s safety program in conjunction with the Senior Regional Safety Manager, Field Operations Manager, and Head of Delivery to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. 

 
What You'll Be Responsible For 

  • Oversee implementation of project-specific safety policies and procedures. 
  • Enforce compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, and local safety related regulations. 
  • Support Unispace and project safety training programs to all levels of staff, as required, by Federal and State safety regulation to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. 
  • Support the onsite project managers and superintendents in ensuring each construction project is conducting operations in a safe manner for the protection of our employees, clients, subcontractors, and the public.  
  • Provide support to field staff in the event of an OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) site inspection. 
  • Coordinate with Project Supervision so that necessary protective equipment and safety materials are utilized, adequate first aid materials are available and safety documents are posted on-site 
  • Conduct toolbox talks on-site with project team  
  • Participate in early return to full-duty work responsibilities for injured workers and to provide meaningful light duty transitional work opportunities. 
  • Perform and oversee investigation of accidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions to include interfacing with workers compensation claims and communication with injured workers and the return-to-work strategies. 

 

What You'll Need to Succeed 

  • Ability to perform various safety functions on-site, including managing/administering safety orientations, overseeing substance abuse programs and investigating/reporting injuries/illnesses/near misses 
  • Comfortability with back-end admin work and heads down paperwork  
  • Ability to work with all groups: Unispace staff and management, tenant, owners' representatives, trades, and subcontractors 
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA safety processes and guidelines and Worker’s Compensation Regulations 
  • Life Science/BioPharma project experience is preferable  
  • Preferably Bilingual: English and Spanish  
  • OSHA 30 and CPR/First Aid Certified 
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred 
  • Procore experience preferred  
  • OSHA 500 certification preferred 
  • CHST or CSP preferred 
  • SST card preferred  
  • Effective organizational and time management skills 
  • Excellent oral and written communication
