Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.
Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking highly motivated individuals actively pursuing an Associate degree and/or certification from a skilled trades program. This includes machining and welding/fabrication, and technology programs focused on electrical and mechanical trades. The ideal candidate takes pride in their craftsmanship, organization, and attention to detail in a fast-moving, exciting environment.
Areas of Opportunity
- Machinists: Operating machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders, to machine metallic and nonmetallic workpieces.
- Fabricators: Welding, fabricating, and assembling complex mechanical structures and machine shop equipment.
- Electrical Technicians: Assembling, operating, troubleshooting and maintaining engineering infrastructure and electrical equipment to contribute to the development and deployment of the company’s engineering testing capabilities.
- Mechanical Technicians: Assembling, operating, troubleshooting and maintaining engineering infrastructure and mechanical equipment to contribute to the development and deployment of the company’s engineering testing capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist in set up, assembly, operation and maintenance of machine shop equipment, electrical equipment, mechanical equipment and other test equipment
- Work with team members from engineering, manufacturing, and/or technician teams to execute work requests
- Provide assistance in assembly work in the labs and/or on shop floor
- Show a willingness to learn and gain new skills on the job
- Other duties as assigned
QualificationsÂ
- Recent or upcoming graduate with an Associate degree or certification in machining, welding, electrical/mechanical trades, or related field
- Hands-on experience operating CNC machines, manual machines, welding equipment and/or working with electrical/mechanical systems is desired
- Ability to properly and safely use hand tools and basic measuring tools; proficiency in the use of hand and shop tools such as drill presses, hydraulic presses, cut-off saws, tube benders and belt sanders is desired
- Ability to take instruction and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Proven team player with excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints preferred
- Careful workmanship, attention to detail, and accurate logging of data are required
- Must have strong computer proficiency, record-keeping, and written/verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management skills with ability to multi-task, effectively accommodate changing priorities, and enjoy a dynamic work environment
- Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues
- Ability to work with highly collaborative team
- Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
- Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
- Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others
Physical Conditions
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts and the like
- Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding, ladders)
- Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
- Communicating with others to exchange information
- Operating motor vehicles, heavy equipment or machinery
- Use hand tools
- Repetitive assembly operations of manufacturing test fixtures and test setups in collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams

Safety and PPE

- Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes
The hourly range for this position is $17-$20 employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
