Job Summary
Responsible for achieving profit and growth targets for assigned Branches across lines of business. Delivery and implementation will include deployment of effective strategies for the integration and execution of product, pricing and risk management strategy with the Territory assignment. Role is responsible for assessing internal performance and external market trends, defining a 3-5 year view of desired book mix and operational goals, creating multi-disciplinary execution plans, and implementing reporting, monitoring and management processes.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Accountable for growth and profitability of Small Commercial in assigned Territory; in collaboration with the Small Business Strategy team, creates and executes short and long-term strategies designed to achieve market share growth and profitability targets; takes risks and generates alternative ideas to achieve growth and profit goals.
- Manages the Small Business rating and company placement decisions for assigned territory and influences Small Business Strategy and Line of Business on broader rating decisions.
- Collaborates with core and matrixed teams to consistently execute multiple planning engagements and implement consistent management framework.
- Maintains a strong understanding of the market dynamics in assigned territory through field travel, monitoring industry trends and competitor filings and tracking our product performance.
- Develops and integrates consistent monitoring and governance across Small Business Commercial to track performance, internal and external trends, and enable adjustments to strategies.
- Manages outcomes through implementation of cross-functional strategy execution progress reviews.
- Develops and scales talent, organization and delivery models to address opportunities in strategic business units, lines of business and functional areas.
- Sponsors, develops, and evolves planning and execution of management initiatives; interprets broad goals and objectives into local/ Small Commercial priorities and activities.
- Drives communication and active deployment of strategies and plans across functional areas; facilitates communication with Field, Small Business Sales and Small Business Strategy teams.
- Provides support to business partners to mobilize on 'quick wins' and key strategic initiatives.
- Work with Small Business program and Alternative Distribution team on new opportunities in assigned territory particularly related to loss analysis and evaluating custom coverage and pricing needs.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Advanced Small Commercial product, price, risk management and insurance regulation knowledge, with working knowledge of commercial products, rate plans and underwriting.
- Ability to develop strategies and implement (Underwriting, Pricing, and Product) programs for assigned Territory.
- Understanding of actuarial pricing and rate development.
- Basic underwriting knowledge is desired (i.e. CPCU coursework).
- Ability to develop and apply risk management concepts within multiple distribution channels.
- Excellent critical-thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong people and thought leadership; ability to develop, mentor and coach others.
- Ability to lead and influence teams in a matrixed, cross-functional environment with the ability to create and manage work plans across multiple work streams, owners and teams.
- Ability to identify and address barriers to execution and drive outcomes.
- Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to effectively design and run group meetings and large workshops.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
- Ability to drive decision making in ambiguous complex situations which require application of creativity and originality, where guidance and counsel may be unavailable
- Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Allteryx, Tableau (desired knowledge of Visual Basic, R, SQL and machine learning techniques).
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree required and MBA or Master's Degree preferred.
- 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in Commercial Insurance and / or Small Commercial disciplines.
- Commercial Lines Sales, Distribution Management, Underwriting, Product, or General Industry experience required.
- Strong collaboration and experience in developing working relationships with senior management and core business functions across the Enterprise.
