Summary

West Los Angeles VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Social Worker (Program Coordinator) for the Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program. The primary responsibilities are to provide clinical evidence based services including, individual and group therapy, and assessments. Provide Veteran, family, and staff education about IPV resources. Program development to include community outreach, resource development, continuous quality improvement activities, and evaluation/consultation.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements
  • Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.
  • Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the advanced practice level.
  • Education: Must have a master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for master's degree in social work.
GS-12 Social Worker (Program Coordinator) Experience and Education: In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.

Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
    • Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
    • Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program
    • Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
    • Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
    • Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.
  • Preferred Experience
    • Experience working with patients who have experienced intimate partner violence.
    • Experience working with patients who have experienced sexual violence.
    • Experience developing and implementing programs.
    • Experience providing individual and group therapy.

Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 pounds); light carrying (under 15 pounds); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking; standing; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability. Occasional travel may be required to various VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System sites and community in order to provide support and meet clinical and technology needs with the veterans, their families, and representatives of community health.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
