Software Architect - Database

Job Description:

As a Database Architect specializing in scalable database architecture and schema Design, you will help design and implement next-generation databases for Zscaler. You should also have expertise in C programming, Unix, Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and databases. Additionally, in-depth knowledge of HTTP, SSL, and TCP/IP protocols. You will collaborate closely with our engineering teams to design, implement, and maintain efficient and scalable database structures. You will leverage your deep expertise in database management to ensure optimal query performance and data integrity, ultimately contributing to the seamless operation of our Zscaler core platform. 

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement & migrate to next-generation scalable database service architecture.
• Database technology evaluation to find out its suitability
• Planning and implementing strategies to scale the database infrastructure as the company grows and data volumes increase.
• Implementing high availability and duster recovery solutions to ensure data is always accessible
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand application requirements and translate them into effective database schema designs.
• Design, implement, and maintain database structures that align with industry best practices and meet the scalability needs of our growing user base.
• Optimize query performance by analyzing and fine-tuning SQL queries, indexes, and data retrieval strategies.
• Identify and troubleshoot database-related performance bottlenecks, ensuring timely resolution to maintain system responsiveness.
• Monitor database health, proactively identifying and addressing issues to prevent downtime and data loss.
• Collaborate with development teams to review code and provide guidance on database-related best practices.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in database technologies and trends, recommending relevant improvements for the organization’s database strategy.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Proven experience (12+ years) in database design and query optimization for SaaS applications or similar platforms.
• Proficiency in SQL and strong knowledge of database systems such as  PostgreSQL or similar.
• Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL) is desirable.
• Proficiency in C programming, Unix, and Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS). 
• Strong in fundamentals - High-performance Computing, Event-based programming, Multi-threading, Memory optimization, Fault Tolerance
• Knowledge of RAFT or other db synchronization protocols
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve database performance issues.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience in networking products, firewalls, cloud security testing & automation is a plus.
• Familiar with the complete software development cycle
• Sound knowledge of Unix and FreeBSD systems internals
• Debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
• Self-starter takes initiative & ownership, identifies and completes tasks; goal-driven
• Experience being part of the agile team for collaborative execution
• Software development experience in a small company/startup is a plus
