Software Controls Engineer

Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Controls Engineer with expertise in software development. In this role, you will build and maintain key software infrastructure to support operations and digital twin development of a Gen IV nuclear reactor. You will also support database infrastructure and develop software tools that facilitate supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.

Responsibilities

• Work with strategy and innovation team to identify high-value software assets and build internal intellectual property for software as a service
• Seize opportunities for modularization and containerization for rapid deployment of solutions for new systems
• Implement architectures for cross platform communications and access between different data publishers and subscribers including audio and video data
• Software Development will be integral to large-scale demonstrations of Kairos technology and will specifically interface with programmable logic controllers, databases, and control room operators
• Lead data schema development
• Lead data management for both test systems and business operations
• Interfaces various software and hardware systems focused on building management systems
• Develops APIs between different software tools

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience
• Experience working in a laboratory or research environment
• Programming proficiency (Java, Python, C++, C#) required
• Web development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) preferred
• SCADA experience
• Demonstrated experience working with stakeholders to understand and develop software requirements
• Proficiency in computer methods for data acquisition, control, and analysis
• Data integration with PostgreSQL or similar experience preferred
• Background knowledge of modern Supervisory, Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
• Background knowledge in user experience design, human factors, and industrial automation design (using Ignition or similar)
• Ability to work on tasks and teams that require a multi-disciplinary approach
• Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work alone on assigned work projects
• Excited to work on advanced nuclear and contribute to Kairos’ mission
