Software Developer

As an ASHA Software Developer, you will work both independently and with project teams to plan, build, and support in-house and public-facing applications that serve the organization and our 228,000 members and affiliates. You will help research and apply new technologies and assist with the adoption of a more DevOps-centric approach.

A. General Description:

In this role, your primary objective will be the development, implementation, and maintenance of our internal and external business applications, providing critical support for ASHA's operations.

B. Responsibilities:

1. Conducting user requirements analysis, system design, development, and ensuring quality control.
2. Generating detailed technical documentation relevant to the technology in use.
3. Overseeing assigned application and database development, as well as maintenance projects, with an emphasis on timely and precise completion.
4. Offering technical support to end-users, including problem diagnosis, resolution, and comprehensive documentation.
5. Evaluating third-party software to ensure alignment with user requirements for business applications.
6. Establishing and maintaining integrations with external vendor systems.
7. Investigating and prototyping with emerging technologies to keep our systems updated and competitive.

To accomplish responsibilities listed above, the incumbent has contact with:

All levels of our organization to gather requirements, troubleshoot software and hardware issues, and coordinate installations and other projects. Collaborative work with the Office of Business Excellence (OBE) and Director, Software Development is critical for developing schedules, performance metrics, and controlling project scope. Close cooperation with Business Analysts and User Experience (UX) Designers is also essential for requirements development, specifications, and application testing.

D. Freedom to Act:

While exercising a certain level of independence, you are expected to follow established Information Systems programming methodologies and uphold our quality assurance standards. You will report to the Director of Software Development (Director, SD), who will provide technical performance monitoring and necessary coaching. Task assignments, priority setting, and professional development goals will be guided by the Director, SD.

E. Qualifications - Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Knowledge and skills typically acquired through:

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or a related field.
• A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.

Scope and depth of technical skills/knowledge:

• Proficiency in Microsoft .NET, Visual Studio, SQL, JavaScript, jQuery, and Bootstrap.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, Web Services, and JavaScript frameworks would be advantageous.
• Experience with Microsoft OSs and 365 productivity tools.
• Proven ability to produce clear, precise technical documentation.
• A track record of application development using Software Development Lifecycle and Agile methodologies.

Scope and depth of nontechnical skills/knowledge:

• Experience in business application development.
• Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Adaptability to swiftly changing priorities.
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration abilities.
• Strong communication skills.
• Aptitude for learning new software applications rapidly.
• Capability to analyze, document user requirements, and translate these into program specifications.
