Software Development Intern - Business Applications (Remote)

We are Grafana Labs; the company behind the Grafana project. Our team is building a SaaS observability platform: Grafana Cloud, and an Enterprise offering: Grafana Enterprise, while cementing Grafana as the leading open source software for time series analytics.  

Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, and traces with Grafana. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software – including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, and Tempo – without the overhead of installing, maintaining and scaling their own observability stack.

The Business Applications team at Grafana:

We're looking for talented software engineers to join our Business Applications team, which is responsible for building and maintaining the internal systems that power Grafana Labs.  The Business Applications team works together with our Cloud, Enterprise and Grafana teams to provide the best possible experience for our customers and most efficient workflow for our staff.  We build on the grafana.com platform to provide custom solutions and integrate with the many external systems that make up a modern business environment.

What you’ll work on:

A normal “day in the life” could include working on functionality in our API, user and staff portals to launch or evolve a product offering, integrating a new 3rd-party tool into our stack, or working with the go-to-market team to improve our internal workflows.

This role would be a good fit for you if:

• You are comfortable working in a remote-first company; communication is key. For us, working together means being collaborative, friendly, kind, and respectful. We value autonomy and enabling decisions over committees and red tape.
• You have interests in full-stack development and working in DevOps environments. We are a distributed team, working remotely, on a product that will be used all over the world – the ability to ask for help, do your research, and experiment with code is crucial.
• You have experience with Javascript/Typescript/NodeJS, React, Go or similar technologies
• You work well within a team and you're driven to help others
• You strive to be better at your craft!
• You can drive your work independently, but you also know when to reach out for help
• You care deeply about user experience and the quality of the products that you work on
• We understand that you may not have experience on all of the above technologies. Please do apply even if you do not match some of the above criteria.

Bonus points:

• Familiarity with deploying & operating large-scale web applications in Kubernetes
• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Graphite, or other time-series platforms
• Open source projects and/or contributions

As we are remote-first, we provide guidance and meet regularly using video calls, so an independent attitude and solid communication skills are a must.

Requirements:

• Interest to work in either frontend, backend, or fullstack.
• Some experience with at least one programming language.
• Some experience with Git and Linux.
• Interest in the observability space
• Excitement for technology and our products

Nice to haves:

• Experience with or interest in working with Kubernetes
• You have used Grafana or Prometheus already
• Exposure to microservices architecture, distributed systems, and a desire to learn
