Software Development Manager, STK (Systems Tool Kit) - Exton, PA
Job Description
Summary / Role Purpose
AGI, an Ansys company, is looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead one or more commercial software development teams. This role will have supervisory responsibility for five to ten direct reports, and will be fully responsible for the successful planning, development, and release of the software. This position reports to the Director, STK.
This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Personnel Leadership
- Lead and coach capability development team members, fostering teamwork and individual growth.
- Provide 1-on-1 coaching and professional development to software developers and subject matter experts.
- Conduct performance appraisals and support the performance management process.
- Support hiring and onboarding activities.
- Work closely with Product Management and the Technical Lead to implement the product roadmap.
- Ensure that work is clearly defined up front and meets the established customer need.
- Develop project plans, coordinate resources, and turn plans into tasks.
- Create and manage checkpoint activities throughout the lifecycle of the release.
- Identify and manage risks.
- Be accountable for timely releases, containing agreed upon feature sets. Actively work to mitigate any schedule slippages, scope impacts, or quality issues in advance, communicating regularly with stakeholders and other Development leaders.
- Represent the capability in release planning and status discussions.
- Be able to recommend scope and trade-offs when required to meet objectives.
- Collaborate with other teams to prioritize needs.
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to meet quality and release requirements.
- Work closely with the Documentation team to effectively document the software.
- Support the development and implementation of project methodology standards.
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
- BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 8 years' experience, MS with 6 years' experience, or PhD with 4 years' experience
- 2+ years of software development management experience
- Great leadership and communication skills
- Desire to take ownership, work with minimal direction, and drive projects to completion
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Strong background in C++ programming and software architecture
- Experience with modeling and simulation software
- Experience in a large-scale, commercial software organization
- Broad knowledge of software development management practices
