About the Platform Engineering Team:

We aim to design build and provide scalable secure and stable infrastructure while also enabling our engineers to quickly and easily deploy new code. The Wealthsimple ecosystem is primarily Ruby on Rails and JavaScript micro services with state backed by Aurora (PostgreSQL) and Redis. The infrastructure-specific stack you will work on is powered by AWS built by Ansible deployed with Terraform run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux powered by Docker and Consul and finally orchestrated by Nomad and “coming soon” Kubernetes.

About the Streaming Platform Team:

The Streaming Platform team is part of the Platform Engineering team at Wealthsimple and is responsible for providing the platform standards and tools to leverage streaming and adjacent technologies (Flink Temporal Kafka Confluent) the Wealthsimple way: reliable secure and scalable.

We are informed by our partners across product engineering and data. Some of the exciting things the Streaming Platform team empowers include being able to make fraud decisions in real-time and to keep client state and data consistent across our microservices. Through the adoption of these technologies and  solutions the Streaming Platform team will increase velocity and reduce the toil and cost of development providing a huge impact across the business.

About the Role:

As the first Software Development Manager on the Streaming Platform team you are going to shape the Streaming Platform team. By partnering with Recruitment and Engineering Leaders you will hire and develop a small and inclusive team responsible for their learning development and growth. By enabling this team to timely release our data projects you will evolve the service of the Platform team creating a world-class infrastructure for our teams to build and deploy at scale.

As a Software Development Manager - Streaming Platform you will:

• Build the Streaming Platform team; grow lead and coach a team of Engineers fostering a culture of innovation collaboration and technical expertise

• Create refine and deliver on a roadmap for the team providing standardization to a strong developer ecosystem and scale our application platforms

• Actively contribute to architectural decisions for streaming and adjacent technologies helping the team to build tools that deliver a great developer experience

• Define best practices and standards that benefit our engineering organization and hold teams accountable to these standards

• Ensure the scalability and reliability of the platform infrastructure and tools that support our teams

• Partner deeply with Data Stores Data Integrations and other cross-functional teams understanding their needs to deliver the next phase of our Streaming Infrastructure

What you bring:

• Strong knowledge of building maintaining and scaling real-time data ingestion and processing frameworks such as Kafka Flink and Temporal

• A passion and experience of growing leading and developing software engineering teams

• An ability to adapt and ship meaningful work in a fast-paced environment

• A collaborative and open approach to communication: you are experienced in delivering clear concise and solution-focused messages that are easily understood by a cross-discipline team
