As the source of the snap creation funnel, our camera is at the center of everything we do. Our camera team is responsible for core snapping experience with focuses on performance, reliability, quality and making our camera more inclusive. This team also owns the client media processing pipeline and builds a platform that empowers all the creative tools and AR effects. We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead our efforts towards evolving our camera in ways that are transformative, helpful, personal and fun for our communities. The team is spread across LA, Bay Area, Seattle, Beijing and Shenzhen, but the location of this role is flexible as long as it is on the west coast.Â
What you’ll do:
Create and manage cross-platform product and engineering roadmaps that will accelerate the growth of our businessÂ
Partner cross-functionally with stakeholder teams at Snap in order to align and deliver such product milestones
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Closely collaborate with PMs in order to translate product requirements into technical designs, which are then turned into engineering roadmaps.
Evaluate the technical tradeoffs of major decisions and be a strong technical mentor
Iterate quickly without compromising quality and raise the bar on operational excellence
Build and grow a team of exceptional software engineers and technical leaders
Hire top performing engineering talent and maintain our commitment to diversity and inclusionÂ
Mentor a team of engineering managers and senior independent contributors
Minimum Qualifications:Â
BS/BA in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent experience
15+ years of software engineering experience
6+ years of experience managing a team

Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant experience leading one or more of the following areas - Camera, Image / Video, Multimedia Processing, Graphics, Transcoding, or Playback etc.
Demonstrated experience leading a large team at scale and managing engineering with an eye to driving efficiency
Previous experience partnering with cross-functional executives and management across a globally distributed organization and exercising sound judgment
Proven track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-site, multi-stakeholder environments
Deep knowledge of and experience working with a diverse group of engineers
Someone who loves to learn, and is passionate about helping others
