Job Description
Job Summary
NetApp is looking for a software engineer to join our E-Series solutions team. This team drives bleeding edge research and development projects and enable fast innovation around AI, HPC, and cloud storage. This team works to solve problems like "What does DevOps mean for HPC?", "How to I deploy 50PBs of storage in an hour?", or "How do I design a distributed storage system that can scale without limits?" If these kinds of problems excite you, we'd love to talk.
This role is a good fit if you: • Like thinking creatively and finding solutions to novel problems. • Are comfortable owning new projects including helping define, organize, prioritize, and refine requirements as the problem is better understood.• Enjoy technical writing and sharing ideas, concepts, and solutions using a variety of mediums including blogs, podcasts, and videos.• Are comfortable meeting with potential/current customers and other partners to learn about the problem space, present potential solutions, and capture feedback to build better solutions.• Want the security of working for a big company while having the flexibility and agility of a startup.
The role is probably not a good fit if you:• Prefer working on projects that are more clearly defined upfront.• Dislike change as we learn and adjust accordingly. • Want to work on a large team where you can fly under the radar.
Job Requirements
The expectation for this role is a mid-level engineer proficient in programming with some experience in systems design. While we are willing to teach skills to the right engineer, working on our team typically requires some mix of the following:
Required : Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience to include the following::• Python• Linux (systems administrator / power user knowledge) • Writing, especially explaining complex technical topics simply and concisely.
Strongly Desirable: • Automation: Ansible, Terraform, Foreman, etc. • Storage benchmarking and troubleshooting, particularly with POSIX compliant file systems• C/C++• Golang• Linux (developer level knowledge) • HPC Networking (InfiniBand, RoCE)• Block, file, and object storage protocols (FC, iSER, NVMe, NFS, SMB, S3, etc.) • Experience with parallel file systems
Note: Some lack of technical skills may be overlooked in favor of strong written and verbal communication skills, for example a technical marketing engineer looking to shift back into an engineering role.
Education
Bachelor of Science and/or equivalent experience.
Nearest Major Market: Wichita
Job Segment: R&D Engineer, Software Engineer, Cloud, Technical Writer, R&D, Engineering, Technology, Research
