Software Engineer

The Content Discovery team is part of Comcast Applied AI & Discovery organization and builds the engine that powers search and browse experiences across a wide variety of Comcast products. This engine is powered by an extensive set of ETL jobs that ingest data from multiple sources, processes data and produce efficient indexes and caches that can then be used by runtime engines to provide a high throughput, low latency user experience.

In addition to writing clean and efficient java applications we also expect candidates to be flexible in picking up other technologies based on project requitements. This could involve writing Ansible deployment scripts, writing a node.js application to help with debugging production issues, working on infrastructure terraform scripts etc.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements, design, develop and unit test code.
• Resolve technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation.
• Work in a collaborative manner within the team as well as external teams.
• Assist in the roll-out of software releases.
• Assist in tracking and evaluating performance metrics.
• Work on CI/CD pipelines
• Participate in on call duties
• Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Conducts analysis to determine integration needs.
• Designs new software and web applications, supports applications under development and customizes current applications. Assists with the software update process for existing applications and roll-outs of software releases.
• Participates in training representatives and operations staff on internally developed software applications.
• Researches, writes and edits documentation and technical requirements, including software designs, evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals and formal recommendations and reports.
• Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
• Provides technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior-level Software Development Engineers.
• Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements.
• Displays in-depth knowledge of engineering methodologies, concepts, skills and their application in the area of specified engineering specialty.
• Displays in-depth knowledge of and ability to apply, process design and redesign skills. Presents and defends architectural, design and technical choices to internal audiences.
• Displays knowledge of and ability to apply, project management skills.
• Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
• Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Employees at all levels are expected to:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or similar field of study
• Requires 4 to 7 years related experience
• A strong hands-on programmer with demonstrated ability in writing good quality efficient code.
• Expertise in Java
• Experience with Docker / Kubernetes
• Experience with Bash, Linux environments and utilities
• Knowledge of monitoring tools like Prometheus / Grafana
• Experience working with agile practices
• Strong problem-solving and analysis skills, a team player and passion for learning and adapting to new technologies
