Software Engineer 2, Backend

MyFitnessPal is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Backend Engineering team. As a member of our MyFitnessPal Engineering team, you’ll have the opportunity to positively impact those users with your expertise in the backend systems that drive the MyFitnessPal ecosystem. At MyFitnessPal we leverage Ruby, Scala, Java, Go, Node, and Python.  The majority of our services are written in Ruby, Scala or Java.  We care more about your ability to think through problems and identify solutions than your experiences with specific languages or frameworks.

• Build and maintain APIs that drive our user's experience, integrating with services and systems across the MyFitnessPal engineering teams
• Evaluate and improve existing systems and APIs to provide more robust solutions that allow others to move quickly and efficiently
• Support resolution of production issues across the entire MyFitnessPal stack
• Engage in code-reviews as a mentor and peer

• Experience building high request volume APIs for a multitude of clients, including but not limited to: 
• Mobile, 
• Web
• Third-Party integrators
• Supported client teams through migrations efforts involving large-scale API changes
• Experience with a variety of API design patterns, such as REST & GraphQL
• Evolving APIs in a safe, incremental manner
• Experience with a variety of data stores (e.g. MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis)
• Profiling and performance tuning applications
• Experience with high volume messaging queues such as Kafka
• Familiarity with AWS and/or other cloud computing platforms
