Software Engineer for VCF Database Managed Service

The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

When you join our Data Services management team, a part of VCF’s Storage Engineering. The purpose of the project is to provide a scalable and performant data services management platform on top of VCF Cloud. If you are passionate about developing highly-scalable software systems and data infrastructure, we would love to have you on our team.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Contribute to the development of the Data Services Management platform:

• Within the first month of employment, become competent with the project, guidelines, and standard operations. Work closely with the more senior members of the team to get onboard. Make your first contribution to the project.

• Withing 90 days (about 3 months) of employment, you will start working on a feature of the product in a small sub-team. 

• Within 180 days (about 6 months), you will be an expert in project and be able to support our existing internal customers, work independently on new features and be able to propose improvements to the project. 

• Withing the first year of employment, you will be making larger changes to the project from start to finish, including designing the change and going through the architectural review process, implementing the changes in small sub-teams and deploying the changes in VMware’s Data Platform infrastructure. 

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

The primary goal of this role is to develop the Data Services Management Platform. Your regular activities may be modified to suit your professional strengths, but you can expect a variety of the following assignments:

• Be part of an Agile scrum team and participate in daily meetings

• Design and develop new functionalities for the project, using technologies like Golang, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, etc. 

• Ensure the success of the users of the service by engaging in solving any unexpected problems as well helping them understand the platform and develop working and efficient solutions on top of it.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

You’ll be joining a growing team of engineers located in Bulgaria, India, Ireland and the US. The larger team is split into several sub teams with local management, focused on the different areas of the platform. 

We are looking for individuals who are self-driven and have the passion to learn new skills and solve complex technical issues. The leadership for this role believes in creating a pleasant and inclusive workplace and building strong relationships and collaboration within the team.

Where is this role located?

The location of this role is Sofia, Bulgaria. Work will be done from an office.
